geocities was an early 90's web hosting service owned by yahoo that allowed users to create and publish websites for free, and to browse user-created websites by their theme or interest. it was the first major 'social network' and one of the most important websites until its closure on 2009. geocities websites had a very recognizable aesthetic that consisted of bright colors, pixel graphics and dog photos, glued together by basic html passed down on forums. if you've never seen the old web, consider taking a look around oocities, one of the largest geocities archives out there :]

which is why i urge everyone to check out neocities if you have any interest in this sort of stuff, its a geocities revival to some degree. totally free, pretty easy to navigate. if you don't know coding give w3school and sadgrl a read. and while you're at it check out the indie web manifesto ^_^
