Noriaki Kakyoin (花京院典明 Kakyōin Noriaki) may sometimes come off as cold towards others, but he is actually kind and loyal once he opens up to someone. He will support his comrades actively and fights for things that are ethically right. He hates bowing down or brown-nosing and only respectable people can be viewed as his friends. He is straight to the point but nice and cares very strongly for his friends. He resents people who plot secret schemes. He mentions he could never relate to people because of his ability, and thus never desired to make friends for most of his life; this changed when he discovered other people who also had Stands.

After Jotaro releases him from DIO's control, Kakyoin joins Jotaro's group in the quest to destroy DIO as compensation for being forced to act as DIO's pawn. Some of his personality undergoes changes in the middle of the story, and this is attributed to the various fights against DIO's followers. He eventually sheds his "repentant" attitude and becomes more confident in himself after regaining his pride.

Kakyoin's stand is Hierophant Green, a long-range stand with the ability to extend tentacle-like limbs, unravel its body over some distance, and shoot projectiles (known as the Emerald Splash). Thanks to its abilities, he can avoid attacks by unraveling his stand, use the strings as piercing weapons or ropes, and reach for things in the distance. It also gives him a distance advantage, being able to attack from far away with a flurry of sharp emerald shards. Due to a lifetime of possessing Hierophant Green, Kakyoin became quite proficient at using it.
