______ Before the Beginning
A lone grey drake sat at the crest of a sloping hill in the Zephyr Steppes, his body relaxed, his eyes scanning the mostly vacant land below him. His name was Illarion, a loner, a rogue. He relished not having a care in the world, and loathed binding things like commitment and mates. But no one can say that Illarion was not compassionate. No, in fact he was quite the opposite. The drake had a reputation for bringing in the sickly and the helpless and caring for them until they could care for themselves. That day, when the grey drake sat on the soft grass of the Zephyr Steppe, his eyes settled upon a Tundra and her troupe. Little did he know this ragtag band of dragons would change his life forever.

______ The Founding
As Illarion guarded the Tundra's troupe in his lair grounds, as he watched the activity, like the sturdy little Pearlcatcher bickering with the glasses toting Wildclaw, the silver scaled Skydancer standing with the tundra at the side, the shining imperial dignitary sitting, organizing his books, as he watched these now familiar dragons settle into the place he called home, he realized he must invite them to stay. He thought "Perhaps it is time I found a family of my own. I could found this place, with the Windsinger's blessing I could make this a lair. I can make them all my Charge, as is the duty of a Guardian." Illarion scanned the sky one last long time before beginning his descent down the grey stone. He was nervous, and had at this point already decided that if he proposition were to be rejected he would be helping himself to a week of turkey dinners. The Tundra, Tamarix, and the silvery Skydancer, were amused at his idea. Here was this imposingly huge Guardian asking if they could be his charges. Tamarix and the silver Skydancer shot a glance at eachother, they agreed, becoming charges would be the best path for their group.

Not a full week later the newborn clan received the Windsinger's blessing. They claimed Illarion's land as their own.

The Exalting

Illarion and Tamarix were prepared to leave, their packs ready, their belongings mostly given away. It has been several long years since the clan's birth. The lair is venerable and the silver scaled Skydancer has laid her claim to the position of clan leader. The population has grown from the original ten to a solid thirty. The lair's warrior might has been established, hunting parties formed, the grounds modified and a justice system set in place. Illarion is proud of the new clan, but commitment is something that has always made him uncomfortable. He is leaving to join the Windsinger and Tamarix is coming with him. He doesn't know what the future will hold for him, he doesn't know if he will ever return to the clan he founded, all he hopes is that he isn't forgotten.

The Return

It was when a Basilisk ripped open his shoulder that Illarion realized he had grown far too old to fight. In the medic's tent he confessed to Tamarix that he wished to return to the clan. She nodded her fluffy head and agreed. It was very rare for dragons to return from exaltation, thankfully though the two were in the good graces of their supervisor. After they were cleared to return, after Illarion's shoulder was mostly healed, the clan sent an emissary to retrieve them.
The glasses toting Wildclaw, Thicket and a group of the clan best warriors met Illarion and Tamarix in the Cloudsong. When Illarion reached the lair he was mindblown. The lair grounds were beautiful and had been expanded, there were ever reaching gardens, a library, and an alchemist station? There were nearly seventy permanent members and a bounty of hatchlings. The treasury was full and everyone was well fed and clean. Illarion couldn't be more delighted to see its progress. Though he was, admittedly, a bit pained to learn of the established matriarchy and the death of the silver Skydancer, he found the matriarch to be an extremely caring and just dragoness. Most of all though he was glad that he had not been forgotten, every clan member acknowledged him by his name, Illarion, The Founder. He now knows he can live out the rest of his days in peace.
