Biography

This was one of the Plaguebringer's first children, an Aberration. They were two souls sharing a body-- they never needed to sleep, as one head could rest while the other stood guard over their kin. They guarded their children and brethren fiercely, and became known for their loyalty and steadfast nature.

And they revered their Mother, as all their kin did. They followed her doctrines as interpreted by the Plague Clerics among them, and served her as best as they could.

But Mother Betrayed them. She Betrayed them all.

They watched as their dear kin were swept away into the Wyrmwound. They barely escaped with their own lives. They fled into the Scarred Wasteland to hide from Mother's wrath, staying constantly on the move and avoiding other dragons. It was a dreadfully lonely existence, but the two halves still had each other.

For years, they wandered alone, mourning the deaths of their kin, despairing over mother's Betrayal. Why weren't they good enough? Why did Mother reject them?

They had only each other, so they became closer than ever. Over time, they became so in sync, so seamlessly melded together, that they were practically one in the same. They no longer remembered who was who, but it didn't matter. They took a new name, a new identity.

The two halves were one, and the one was Iskan.

Over countless years and an ocean of tears, Iskan's despair gradually turned to anger. It wasn't the Aberrations who weren't good enough, he decided-- it was Her. Her Betrayal showed her weakness; if she had been an adequate leader, the Aberrations could have thrived under her guidance.

He was not the only one who felt this way. One fateful day in the Abiding Boneyard, Iskan happened upon a Plague Sprite-- a powerful little creature who had been cast out by the Clerics of the Plaguebringer. She formed an alliance, and eventually a deep friendship with Iskan.

She was able to use her magic to disguise Iskan as a modern dragon-- a Guardian. Because of this, he was able to rejoin dragon society. He forged new alliances with other dragons who rejected the deities, and over time formed a clan that offered sanctuary to any dragon cast out or abandoned by their god.

He oversaw generations of this clan, raising them and guarding them fiercely. But he grew weary and grim, as the love of his new clan could never erase the pain of losing his kin. He adopted and raised a progeny to take his place as leader. And when she was ready, he fell into a deep sleep...

...

Until he heard them in his dreams. The cries of his kin from deep within the Wyrmwound. He awakened for the first time in years. He raced to the putrid cesspool, his loyal Sprite companion by his side. When he saw them there, dragging themselves free of the filth after milennia, he wept tears of joy and anger in equal measure.

As he embraced them, he swore Mother would never separate them again.
