Though born into Shadow, Frederick never truly felt he fit in with the joking, playful dragons. He had softer scales than most of his peers, making him more fragile. Dragons weren't willing to interact with him the way they were with others, and Frederick always felt distant. Instead of spending time with dragons, Freddy nurtured his growing fascination with plants. The plants in Shadow weren't quite what he wanted, though. It wasn't so much that he didn't like the mushrooms and brambles (he truly liked all plants), but he wanted more. As he reached adulthood, Frederick decided he would travel to the Veridian Labyrinth. However, as he was finishing up his preparations, he met her.

She was the most beautiful dragon he'd ever seen, and the way she smiled at him made his heart flutter. Their eyes were the same color, and for the first time, Frederick recognized the beauty in the violet eyes he'd grown up with. His plans to travel went out the window, because at that moment, all he wanted was to spend more time with her.
