Axel spends most of his time with his friend and partner Brunch, causing minor trouble. Many believe Brunch is a bad influence on him, though he is equally as responsible for the trouble they cause. In fact, many of the ideas come from Axel himself. He gets antsy and restless easily, and is always looking for some new excitement. He's curious about the world outside the clan's land, and is eager to see and experience new things - but he can also be a lazy dragon, skipping out on things like combat training or minor chores he's given around the lair in favor of hanging out with Brunch.

Despite his trouble-maker nature, he feels a strong sense of duty to his clan and worries deep down about the clan's fate. Part of his reluctance to take his place as leader is due to these feelings - he fears he would be a bad leader, and the anxiety of doing something to hurt the clan is overwhelming. Axel cares too much about his clan and doubts himself too much.

The son of the clan's founding pair, and slated to be the leader. However, he's still within his "teenage" years and is very immature. Many within the clan feel he's not ready for the responsibility and won't be for some time. Because of this, he has agreed to let Seraphine take his place as leader - and although she has offered to step down should he want to take his rightful place, he feels no inclination to do so.

He is still young, so he's not the strongest dragon among the clan. He shirks training sometimes, which does not help his fighting prowess improve. He has no ambition to be a skilled fighter, so it's not something he works very hard at - a fact some within the clan disapprove of. He's more concerned with playing pranks and goofing off with Brunch. Recently he and Brunch entered a committed queer platonic relationship with one another, and Axel feels no desire to find a mate in the more traditional sense.

Maybe one day he will grow into the role and find the confidence to lead, but right now he is too overcome with anxiety at the idea that he could make a mistake and endanger the clan he loves so much. The only dragon to know of these feelings is Brunch, although matters this complex and difficult are perhaps a bit out of Brunch's depth.

He feels, secretly, that he is living in his parents' shadows - as son of the clan's founding pair, a lot of eyes are on him, wondering what kind of dragon he will grow to be. His parents were highly respected, revered dragons, and their roles seem like massive shoes for a young dragon to fill. He fears he will become something his parents would have been disappointed in. His parents vanished when he was very young, and he does not remember much of them - all he has to go on is what others tell him about them.
