Biography
Indigno
The rose-colored Skydancer does not bother to hide the disgust in his stare as he shifts on the tall rock uncomfortably. A pair of small gold spectacles slip off his snout and land in the bushes, but he pays no mind. One more trial, he reminds himself.
He's tired of deranged prisoners by now. He's tired of deciding the fates of innocent and guilty alike. Sometimes trials last hours, but this one won't last very long. The obsidian Guardian is guilty as sin. "Guilty," the Skydancer says, raising his head and fixing his pink eyes into the eyes of the Guardian.
I must not lie. Ah well, what's done is done.
A shock ripples down Indigno's spine as the verdict is passed in the dusky clearing lit only by softly glowing mushrooms, the clearing where dragons are called upon to judge those that have committed a crime. Indigno hasn't, though. The only evidence against him is that a witness saw a flash of pink in the night that matched his patterning.
The Skydancer knows well that Indigno has committed no crime. There are only two clan members who participate in a trial. The judge, and the executioner. There is no jury. Indigno swallows. It will take a miracle for him to survive.
But survive he does. The night after the trial, he paints the pink contour on his body pitch black; as he stands up in his den for the last time, preparing to sneak out of the den. The whole clan is watching for a flash of pink that will give him away, but there will be none.
Indigno is free.
~~~~~~~~~~
He has traveled long and far. He must keep his pink scales hidden, for there is a bounty out on his head. Someday, he will be truly free. Not now.Dragonhome is the only place that nobody is constantly watching out for the supposed murderer on the run. Indigno is safe here. He sets up camp atop a cliff; food is whatever he can hunt. Today, it is a few rabbits. He won't starve, though. Some days he is forced to steal.
Indigno curls up, about to try for some sleep, when he hears feeble coughing and lifts his head, peering at the rose-colored dragon stumbling up the cliff. A Skydancer.
The rage rises in him, almost blinding the young Guardian. He had a future, and it wasn't living on the run, scrounging for skinny rabbits and scraps. He had a future, until --
The Skydancer's eyes widen as Indigno draws himself up to his full size. The small creature has made a mistake. The Skydancer immediately turns around to scramble down the cliff, but Indigno swipes a claw at him. He stumbles, dangerously close to the cliff edge. Indigno does not care. The Skydancer robbed him of a life, for a murder he didn't do. Indigno takes another swipe and as if in slow motion, he hears the snap. Watches the rose-colored dragon fall backwards, crumpling and letting out a shriek of pain, before the Skydancer tumbles off the edge of the cliff.
Only after the hot rage boiling in Indigno's stomach has frozen with shock does he realize, he has just committed a murder.
Oh, the irony.
