Mushroom Carer

When he was young, Jixer was careful about keeping his hide clean. He found the various growths his parents sported to be rather unpleasant. But when Jixer was ready to find his charge, he woke up one day to find that a mushroom had grown out of his wing joint, and he realized immediately that this mushroom was his charge. Now Jixer’s back is a very carefully cultivated biome to support the mushroom – or rather the family of mushrooms since the original one inevitably passed and it’s now his duty to ensure its line survives.
