Reliable doctor for trauma, she'll keep you alive but it won't be pretty "You have to make the choice now! You wanna keep the leg or do you wanna live?!" You live or you die. You eat or you are eaten. The leg, or the life. There were truths in life, constants in the universe, that could not be changed no matter how much one tried. Everyone learned it sooner or later. Sierra was grateful she had learned it sooner. Medicine could heal, not cure. She could patch it up, not erase the scars. And after a while she had stopped caring about the scars. Stopped caring about the infections, or the cries of pain when she didn't have anesthetic at hand. But despite the thick armor she had built to shield herself from unnecessary emotions, she could never stop caring when people died in her arms. "That's always the worst part" her teacher always said. "You can't stop caring, no matter how much you try." And he had been right, of course. She couldn't. Every death was both bitter memories to relieve, and one more to add to her repertoire. She could patch the wound, not ensure its healing. She would always do her best. Keep her calm and be collected, analytical, competent. After all, losing her head could be fatal to her patients. That was another lesson she had learned with time. But the truths in life, those had become clear only when her master had died because of her hesitance. Because she wouldn't cut the darn leg. Because she was afraid, or maybe she thought she was doing the right thing. And she wouldn't repeat her mistakes twice. Decisions had to be made, wounds had to be patched, death had to be expected.
