Biography
Eriel
Coroner
Eriel was a part of a long line of coroners. The Shadowbinder's domain contained a high volume of corpses and therefore has the highest ratio of coroners, tied with the Plaugebringer's domain, of course. Eriel's family would travel between the two domains, performing autopsies and biopsies for hundreds of years. His family was well known and highly respected. The tradition had begun to die off by Eriel's generation, both of his parents exalted themselves after a particularly gruesome couple of years and his two siblings followed suit.
But Eriel never felt the grief hit him. He always had issues with emotion like that. He never really felt sad or happy and he often wondered if it was a blessing or curse. Regardless, his mind's distaste for emotions allowed him to be a wildly successful coroner. Bodies that would have terrified even his parents barely affected him. He would travel to plague-stricken villages and treat those closest to death and those who had recently died. Many sang his praises but he cared little. Eriel shortly became friends with a Death Seeker that had followed him for months. He gave the corvid chunks of seared or rotten meat. That bird was his closest friend. When Miran approached him, he declined at first, the den had few dead bodies and his time could be best spent elsewhere. The Shadowbinder became suspicious of him, however, wary of his apathetic response to corpses. She demanded he be released from service as he might become 'an impassive danger to himself or others' and Eriel was fired. If he could be furious, he would be. Eriel reached back out to Miran, explaining that he had no home or food and would like to now join the den. Miran agreed.
Eriel is very disturbing to many in the den. His monotone voice is complemented horribly by his Death Seeker's screeches. Occasionally a dragon will approach him about a familiar that passes and ask for why they died. Eriel does his job well and tries to branch out into other topics like science.
