Biography

William
Ashfall Wastes
Limestone Stalactite Dusty Sage Lantern Lava Stalactite
Beneath the scorched earth and fiery embers on the outskirts of Sornieth's Ashfall Wastes is a cavern with maze like burrows, once home to tunnels of magma it's now crowded with sharp and thin stalactites that cover the ceilings - hanging down like deadly chandeliers. The darkness is foreboding and the dank environment assaults your nose with the sickeningly stale smell of mildew. Within these hollowed depths lies a treasure so profound it has enticed adventurers to travel in from all over Sornieth to take the spoils for themselves. It is at the ashy entrance to this cave that a young two headed dragon stands - pickaxe ready for what lies ahead.

William had hear of the myths - a cave full of crystals, jewellery, and treasure left behind by a mad king who stored away all his wealth in these unreachable and highly dangerous depths. He didn't quite believe the tale but certainly thought there might be some something of value that had been concealed by magma for centuries. Flicking a match and lighting a flame in his lantern he ventures into the unknown. The flickering flame reached out to a seemingly endless darkness, no ceiling or walls were illuminated and the though of becoming lost in the sea of darkness before him almost made him retreat. He hesitated, thinking back on his family who he left behind to find these untold fortunes. Despite being scared and anxious he steadied himself and stepped forward. The darkness wasn't as over whelming as he had first thought, as he came upon a rock wall dimly light by his lantern within a few steps. He took a moment to think, in this darkness it would be easy to become lost and lose your sense of direction so he decided it would be a good plan to stay to the left and so he ventured forward. He followed through narrow tunnels with stalagmite columns supporting the low ceilings. The sound of his footsteps echoed in the harrowing halls and faded out far illustrating how deep these tunnels and caves were. The noise of gravel and small rocks shuffling below his feet became rhythmic in the silence of the dark and unknown halls and William felt as if he were falling into a trance being pulled almost to keep going forward.

He was only pulled from this trance like state when his paw hit a jagged edge of rock protruding from the ground and he tumbled over. He wasn't injured and quickly picked himself up and reached down to grab the lantern he had dropped that lay beside the rocky ground but was distracted by an odd observation - there had been something else on the ground stuck right behind the jagged rock he had tripped on - it was a small bundle of torches held together with a twine rope. It was unexpected but, he supposed, not too peculiar given how many come to venture into these caves and who doesn't love some free torches? So instead of picking up his lantern he grabbed the stack of torches with one hand and reached behind his back with the other, using his sharp claw to unbuckle the latch of his satchel. The metal buckle fell down and was tugged back by the leather strap it was attached to making a loud clang that broke through the eerie silence and echoed all around the tunnel. Just them suddenly the lantern flame had gone out and he was enveloped in an all consuming darkness. He panicked at the sudden change and tried to stay still, only moving his arm around tentatively trying to locate the lantern but it was gone. He turned around searching for his lantern to quickly relight the flame but, instead, was met by a pair of two bright green eyes that shot through the darkness.

He was stunned still staring into a pair of eyes that seemed familiar when a second pair slowly opening one eyelid at a time. The eyes were striking, and unblinking, opened wide and staring straight at William. Then a whoosh sounded and a small flame appeared, the creature now had William's lantern in it's possession and slowly drew the flame to the lantern. The now burning lantern revealed the form of the creature - it was a two headed like William and was hanging down from the ceiling. In fact it wasn't just it's abundance of heads that was similar to William the creature was like a mirrored reflection of him - the same colourings, the same markings, the same scar just on the bridge of it's nose, the same bright green eyes. The sudden stumbling upon a doppelganger wasn't already eerie and terrifying enough this creature, or dragon, or . . whatever it was had a menacing smile plastered across both faces that seemed it was almost too large for it's heads to house.
