` ` I was once just a wee hatchling, small enough to be held in an Imperial's palm. I lacked the stars that shine so brightly along my body and soul today. I was born to a destiny, something to push for: be the strongest for the Lightweaver. My servitude would be my pleasure, back then. And so that's what I lived for, and that's what I prepared to die for.
` ` And so I trained. Tirelessly, with few breaks or pauses to converse or rest my aching muscles. I simply couldn't; it was my destiny to be the strongest, and if I couldn't fulfill my destiny, what if I got rejected the honor of serving the Lightweaver herself? So I worked, and I flew, and I fought. I was going to prove myself. |

` ` But then he appeared, that strange dragon. His body was a piece of the night sky itself, glimmering stars seeming to shift upon his scales. His monotone gaze had followed me as I trained that day, and when night fell he struck. I was alone, taking a brief break to refuel my stomach, when he appeared. I had not noticed him there all day, and I didn't notice him immediatly then; but when I did, I prepared to fight. He was calm, though, presumably not an intruder of malicious intent. I calmed, and he approached, his scales glowing in a mesmerizing display of magical power. I did not run. And before I knew it, my once bland scales were taking on patterns of a beautiful night sky.

` ` The stars had nearly reached my wings, overtaking my light magic in place of space magic, but then it halted. I'm unsure why, though I'm a bit sour that I'm less powerful because of it. My naive dragonet mind told me to follow the strange fragment of space as he flew off, and so I did, yelling out questions he's still yet to answer. He ended up landing in a small cave with an even smaller group of dragons, all with the same night sky patterns that I now had. I at first thought the dragon I had followed was some sort of forgotten deity who blessed all these dragons as he had blessed me, but I have since learned that to be untrue. I spent who knows how many days there before anyone seemed to acknowledge me, but eventually I began to train again and they took notice. I was crowned head of the Defense Department and haven't looked back since. Well, until Starsign ran off, but that's a story for another day. ` ` |
