Zela stared. She felt a breeze against her face and warmth in her large, soft, furry pelt. She stood, as silent and still as a boulder, watching with a stare that could intimidate a full-grown Black Wolf. Then, she lunged with speed, running towards her target. She leaped forward and landed right on her prey; a large Capricorn. She landed on it with outstretched claws and finished her kill. She looked around, and spotted a couple dragons watching her intently, and she knew they would be criticizing her every move. She stalked back through the forest until she found her den, a large cave with many caves branching off of it. Some of these caves had been there for hundreds of years, others had been made and carved into the earth by dragons. Zela shuddered as she saw claw marks on every wall, covering it in what looked like a gruesome battle scene. As she walked down a long cave, she felt it slowly start to creep upward. As she reached the top of the long tunnel, she walked into a brilliantly lit cave, with a large skylight showing the sun coming through. Inside, there were young dragons sitting around talking and feasting on their kills. Zela stalked to the other side of the cave, her eyes slitted and flitting around the cave, watching every dragon she could see. Finally, she reached the other side of the cave and sat down to eat. All eyes that had previously been on her turned away. Then, another smaller and younger guardian walked in. He was dragging a large Shardspine boar, and it had caught a lot of attention. Suddenly, a young Wildclaw female was up in a flash, along with a small pack of others right behind her. Then, with a cry, she and her pack rushed forward at the guardian. He squeaked in alarm and tried to flee, but he was immediately surrounded by the pack. Then, all at once, the whole room turned to chaos. Dragons from all, over the cave swarmed towards the guardian in a writhing mass, all trying to get at the boar. The sounds of fighting echoed throughout the cave, making it sound like a war zone. Then, the Wildclaw female that had initiated the fight ran out of the mass of dragons carrying an almost-full Shardspine boar carcass. The rest of her pack went with her and growled at anyone that came near. Slowly, the fighting died down, leaving scratches and blood all over. In the middle was the small guardian, covered in large wounds and scratches. He lay there stiffly without moving, except for the ragged breathing. Then he stopped breathing and lay still, the light coming out of his eyes and into the sun. The cave was quiet for a moment, then everyone was back in there places, acting as though nothing had happened. Zela stared at the guardian who had once been her friend, tears welling in her eyes. His name had been Scorch. As the day went on, some of the more experienced dragons came in from their own cave and took Scorch away, cleaning up the mess and making the room more breathable. At night, when Zela headed to the sleeping cave she was cold and empty inside. She knew she would have had to fight Scorch the next day, but she still didn’t want him to die like that. As she fell asleep under the stars that night, she thought of her friend, and started to wonder who she would have to fight instead of him at her ceremony, and who they could possibly think she had connections with… In the morning, Zela awoke with a sense of dread in her stomach. Today was the day. Today she had her ceremony. Today she would fight to the death to prove her worthiness to the Lightweaver. Today she would either kill, or die. She got up to see that about half of the cave had left, and the rest were still asleep or just waking up. She silently walked out of the cave and through the long, narrow tunnel leading to outside. She then turned a corner a headed down a different passageway, until she came to a brilliantly lit cave, with sand on the floor and iron-hard walls. It was a huge cave, with ledges on every level as the walls grew higher and higher. On the ledges were hundreds of dragons all waiting and talking, watching for when it would start. All eyes turned to her as stalked in, though the conversation didn’t stop. Zela walked to the middle of the room and stopped. Then she waited as a second dragon walked in. Zela knew this dragon, her name was Regal. As she walked into the cave, her eyes flitted around and found her target on Zela. She walked to the middle and stopped. The two stared at each other, waiting for the call. Then a large unnatural voice boomed around the crowd Let the ceremony begin, and let the light win! Lore by: Storm6 |
