77821702.png Ora was once a guardian of the Highland Sanctum, but after the ley lines shifted, she and her partner were ordered by their kindred to go into hiding. . . into the Greatwyrm Breach.
"Ora," the Qilin urged, their voice barely a whisper. "You and Akos must leave the Sanctum. Great dangers are awakening in Sornieth."
⠀⠀⠀⠀"But Yasu," the false Qilin whined, her golden-brown eyes widening with an irrevocable sense of impending homesickness. "My family is with your herd. I've never been beyond the sanctum, it's always been my birthright to defend it."
⠀⠀⠀⠀"I know, little one." Yasu hummed, her stoic features giving way to the slightest varnish of a frown. "But the sanctum isn't safe for you anymore. Go off with Akos, and start your own herd. The Greatwyrm Breach will allow you to always be near the sanctum and its lines, but it will keep you safe from the surface's peril.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"Yasu—"
⠀⠀⠀⠀"It is an order, Ora."
⠀⠀⠀⠀Her expression wrought with disbelief, Ora bowed her head and let out a whimper; a cry. The pain in her chest felt worse than any sickness she'd ever suffered before, and something carnal told her this would be the last time she'd see Yasu for decades, perhaps centuries— or maybe even never again. The very threads of her existence were being pulled apart and resewn, her purpose stripped from her and recycled, and she suddenly felt very, very alone. And by her horns, she was certain Yasu could feel it too.
⠀⠀⠀⠀"I hope you can find it in you to forgive me." The older Qilin murmured, taking a tentative step forward as she pressed her forehead against her weeping kin's. "No matter what happens, we will always be bound as one. The ley lines connect us as they connect Earth and Sornieth, and they cannot be destroyed. You must go."
