Biography
Enderman fictive [they/them or bat/batself]
gonna infodump abt bat actually bc they're p cool. Wish the game gave us clearer lore. (Art by me vvv)
In my lifetime, us Endermen(/Enders) were explorers! We would compare ourselves to astronauts, but instead of only exploring planets, we would cross over dimensions as well. It's why you can find us in every dimension - the overworld, the nether, and our home, the End!
The End wasn't so barren as it is in-game either. We had our own little "village" of sorts around the pillars, stationed right outside of the Enderdragon's reach. Our homes didn't look like those that humans make (nor the end cities - those are ancient, we don't really know where those come from) - instead, we would take some favourite souvenirs from these other worlds/dimensions, and pile them up around us; leaving the front open to observe the Enderdragon, and not adding a roof so we don't bonk our heads.
We were very social with each other as well! As a neat thing, most of us used neopronouns, since there are so many - it was pretty uncommon for two endermen to have the same pronouns. They/them is most common since it's what we start off as before we find the ones that fit us better - many do find better fitted pronouns, others stick with they/them their whole lives. As for other social stuff - and the reason we react so badly to being looked at - is that eye contact is often seen as a threat ! Staring a stranger down in the eyes is meant as intimidation, and instead it's better to look at one's other features, usually whatever the other Enderman is carrying. We each have our favourite objects to carry around, so it's another way to identify each other! Mine was a Jack-o-lantern that I would carry around, as well as a poppy, which I named myself after.
As for the Enderdragon -- we do not know what her deal is. We think of her as an old strange god - she seems to either ignore us, or not know we exist at all. If we get too close to her, she will just shove through us and break anything we put near her. But she seems to guard the place from outsiders. She stays on her path around the pillars, right where invaders would appear - and when they do come, she protects us from them with her life*. Or, well, she protects the End, anyway. We still do not know if we exist to her, but I like to think we do.
*She is immortal, we think. She can be killed, but is rebirthed from the egg she drops, like a phoenix. We think it is the same dragon every life - none of us have lived long enough to witness multiple of her lives, but from stories we hear, she seems to act the same each time. Patrolling, protecting, paying no mind to us.
