”It’s been too long, Alita.” “Do you insist on visiting me in my dreams every time?” “It seems to be the only way to contact you.” “Perhaps there’s a reason for that.” Golden sunlight bathed through the top of the den, squeezing through the cracks in the weathered and worn rocks to glare into Alita’s eyes. Letting out a grunt, they shifted, only to be met with another ray of sun. Great. Cutting their losses, Alita stood up and stretched, shaking the last remnants of sleep from their body. After a moment of sitting up, they made their way to the shallow pool of rain water collected in the den, reaching down to lap up the cool, slightly mineral-tasting water, while the dream from earlier sat heavy on their mind. `What is it even supposed to mean?’ Alita thought bitterly. `It’s been too long? Since what? Since I had a night where that dream weirdo didn’t bother me?’ They were sure Achlys might know something about it… but the mountains were such a long way away. Alita didn’t want to go all the way there just for the necromancer to have nothing. Was there anyone else they could tell? `Castor would tell too many of the others and cause a panic… Sangria would think it’s just weird.’ Letting out a deep sigh, Alita stared at their reflection in the rain water. It rippled slightly, before it twisted, reflecting back someone standing behind them. Letting out a yelp, they spun around quickly, only to see a mouse skittering across the floor of the cave. `Great. Now I’m losing my mind as well.’ They rolled their eyes, making their way out of the den to start their day. |
