Once kept at a Beastclan camp, Veratrix is the knowledgeable guard that understands both her own kind and the Beastkin themselves. Raised from an egg in the care of the peaceful longnecks, Veratrix actually 'fell in love' with one of the males from the clan who looked after her. He helped her construct her armour and sat with her many nights, talking and keeping her company.
Unfortunately, there was a scuffle at the edges of the Longneck's territory and the male she'd been so fond of was killed by a pack of roaming Mirrors. Seeing no reason to stay, the red dragon left to grieve in private- practically falling into Catalysta's lap after she fell out of the sky, dehydrated and exhausted.
Now a guard to the clan, she patrols their patch in a loop every night, missing the friendship she once had. This hadn't gone unnoticed by the Matriarch, so she allowed one of her loyal longneck friends to accompany the dragoness on her rounds; something that has become apparent she is incredibly grateful for.

Veratrix recently announced that Nix, her close companion, is her charge - much to the mirror's displeasure. While the two had already forged a strong bond in their similar upbringings, the scar-ridden ex-slave would rather run on the dust of the desert and hunt without the lumbering guardian eagerly following. Either way, she hasn't exactly lashed out at the gentle giant yet, so all seems well.
