Hemlock
Veterinarian
Hemlock has been a caring soul from a young age. His parents feared for his future, fully knowing there was a certain expectation surrounding banescales and a gentle one would give him nothing but a life of hardships. They tried to introduce him to sports or any other manner of physical improvement, but the hatchling was resistant to change. He would explore the vast wilds of the Starwood Strand and search for treasures. He was an avid reader and adopted a storyline of feral owlcats who developed their own society within the woods. The series was very complex, full of intricate details from natural medicines to a unique leadership structure. One part that really caught Hemlock's attention was the medicine owlcats, whose entire job was to save others from illness or injury. He began to practice on the occasional wounded bug or mammal strewn about the wilderness. After many months and much trial and error, Hemlock was beginning to have some success. His parents took notice when he began to steal away all the cloth for bandages. they'd fought him enough, and when he was old enough, sent the banescale off to a mildly well-known veterinary school. Hemlock loved every moment of his education and reaped the rewards of his success.
A day before graduation, two imperials decided a banescale shouldn't graduate from their prized school. They grabbed him in the night and took him all the way into the Shadowbinder's realm and tied him to a bramble of thick thorns by the riverside. The two immediately abandoned their victim, fully knowing how the river would rise within hours, dooming Hemlock. He struggled and struggled, but was unable to escape. Miran found the exhausted banescale and hurriedly freed him as the water was nearly shoulder-length. Hemlock thanked him for the help but was lost on what to do next. He knew he'd miss graduation and couldn't face returning to the school that allowed his kidnappers to walk free. But Hemlock also knew he couldn't get anywhere without a Veterinary degree. When mentioning this to Miran, the mirror gladly offered him a job and a safe home. Hemlock quickly accepted and shortly began to study psychology, obsessed with understanding his captors. Before the obsession became unhealthy, Unzsa joined and he was given a new project. He loved the wild banescale for months before the picnic but was patient. When Unzsa matched his affections, he nearly exploded in joy, finally blissfully happy.
