Biography

F A I L U R E.

You bring shame to your queen, born without the trueborn scales. You bring shame to your father, born without the wisdom of a thousand kings.

Begone, whelp.

Emptiness. That’s all he felt. What else could there be when his own parents decided his existence was a mistake. Ordering for him to be killed for something he had zero control over. It wasn’t his fault he’d been born the way he was. The venom dipped words that were spat his way hurt far more than the physical injuries of the beating he’d taken.

The message was very clear. First chance he’d gotten, he spread his wings and took to the sky. After a chase it seemed, his should be caretakers, realized having him far away and out of their lives was just the same as having him dead. Part of him wished he was but..he wasn’t done living yet.

His injured body was only able to take him so far before he all but dropped from the sky from the mixture of pain and exhaustion from the traumatizing events that had occurred. Being alone now gave him the ability to really ponder over and process what had happened.

Was he really that bad for not inheriting the ideal traits his parents wanted out of him? Was that the only reason he’d been conceived in the first place? Was something really wrong with him? They hadn’t even bothered with naming him.

Despite knowing he never was and never will be loved by the dragons that hatched him, they were still his parents. He still loved them. In a weird sort of way. He didn’t know why. Could he forgive them for the terrible acts they caused against him? He wasn’t sure.

But blood was blood right? They were still his family in a way. All he had.

So each day he was left alone to heal, scavenge, and fend for himself, he daydreamed of scenarios that made the hurt not hurt quite as bad. Filling the holes in his heart with whatever we could. Even if. Wasn’t healthy.

He imagined his parents, so happy to have him in their lives. His mother caring for him when ill, reading him stories, passing on her love of things to him so he loved them too.

And his father proud to instruct him on everything he should know about running the kingdom, and being a good dragon. Going on boys only trips. Giving him someone to go to when he lost his place in the world.

He wanted them to teach him how to have a good heart, what love should be like. Anything that wasn’t what he ended up with.

This is what helped him sleep at night. The alternate reality he’d conjured in his mind.

It was all he had to keep him going.
