Amaryllis had always had a thirst for the unknown. A hunger to explore. But, she had been born paralysed from the waist down. She tried again, and again to fly, often injuring erself in the process, much to the distress of her parents and family. They held her closer, smothering her with toys and sympathy in the hopes t would keep her safe at home. But this only made amaryllis more determined to be independent.
Her parents allowed her to go to school on the condition she would wear padding on her nerveless legs and tail, so that she could move around without harming them. School was an elation for Amaryllis. She consumed new information like a vacuum, and it was there that she met Beetle. Beetle was a resident of sanctuary, who was an exchange student coming to school in amaryllis' flight. The pair became inextractibly close, and Amaryllis persuaded her parents to bring her to Sanctuary for a visit when Beetle returned home. They gave in, and Amaryllis was overjoyed.
It was at sanctuary that her life changed forever.
While there, she met Ash, the resident inventor. Ash soon was joining Beetle and Amaryllis on their jaunts-which were still few and far between, thanks to her parents-and Amaryllis opened up to Ash and Beetle about her wish to fly. Instantly, Ash leapt to his feet, and took to the air, arrowing for his lab. It was weeks later when they saw Ash again, a day before Amaryllis was due to return to her flight. He was ecstatic, and fitted Amaryllis with what he had been working on: a contraption that would allow her to fly. It was a gamechanger for Amaryllis, and soon she permanently moved to Sanctuary to allow Ash to continue perfecting his inventionr, and live her dream exploring new lands and providing for the dragons of sanctuary.

Amaryllis' breath caught in her throat. "r-really?"
Ash nodded. holding up a huge leather bag, he smiled softly. "really. Lie down here Amar, ill show you."
Amaryllis folded down her front legs, spreading her wings wide. For the next hour, Ash worked. He removed the padding from her legs and tail, and added his own. A white and gold contraption was connected to her wings, and he spread out spools of thread filled with sensors over her wings and shoulder muscles. Next, a flexible strut was stretched down her spine, connecting to her tail padding, and swarming over her thighs to her leg pads. Finally, he sat back.
'Try that'
Amaryllis slowly stretched her wings, opening them wide, tasting the ecstasy of flight-CRACK. The gears creaked and stuck, jamming her wings in a half-open position.
Ash muttered and pulled out a measuring tape. He replaced gears, and oiled struts. Again and again, the machine failed, and soon the sun was sinking low over the horizon.
