You gasped for breath but couldn’t quite grab ahold of the air needed to fill the hallow space in your lungs. Were you going to die from the loss of your head or suffocation? You weren’t sure. But you did know this: I am going to die one way or another.
You glanced up at the executioner, the Abberration was inspecting their claws and looking bored out of it’s mind.
“S-sir…” You stammered. They turned to look at you. It was red, red like blood, and it’s scales seemed to be dripping as if they weren’t completely solid. You squinted your eyes as you tried to focus on the red shape, they were firmly leaned up against the guillotine. Definitely solid… how odd.
“You know as the dragon that is to kill you, its wise for me not to associate with you in any other way.” They pointed out looking faintly amused.
“Well, uhm, I was wondering if you had a more humane way of… um… killing others?” You would have been fidgeting but when your head is directly under a blade that can be released at any moment its quite hard to not freeze. If you have gotten to the point where you have been sentenced to death the things you would have been fearful of seem trivial. The executioner stood up straight and raised it’s brows.
“Would you rather that I kill you with my own talons?” they responded dismissively, holding up a large axe.
“No thank you, i’m good with the guillotine.” You looked away quickly. The sight of the weapon sent a small shiver down your spine.
“Suit yourself.” It set the axe down, am expression flashing across their features that you could have sworn was disappointment, they glanced at their watch.
“And that’s time! Brace yourself!” they called casually. You screwed your eyes shut.
You could hear the wind whistle as the rope was sliced, the blade barreled down at a high speed. What will happen after this, how could they be so heartless to do this is the first place. How is what I did punishable by death?
An eerie tune drifted through the air, humming, the boards creaked as the executioner stepped off the platform. The song could have been cheerful but you decided that it didn’t serve a cheerful purpose as the last song you were to hear.
21 counts…
CRACK!
The blade hit it’s mark cutting through flesh and bone.
Decapitated.
