While the core of the Greenport Guard has always been to protect the port from theft and piracy, there has always been an equal - if not greater - threat to the port: the naturally shifting border between the Wind and Water magics and the storms it produces. To keep the port safe during times of magical crisis, a small team of powerful mages was formed to manage the volatile magic in the area and keep the port safe when it gets out of hand. They call themselves the Storm Guard. Lieutenant Dorite, the dragon in charge of the Storm Guard, was also their founder. He had initially sought to join the Greenport Guard as a lower level recruit, but had been rejected due to the guard's preferral of physical might to magical. Not allowing this to slow him down, he argued and fought with the guard to be allowed into it, bringing his complaint all the way up the chain of command and eventually being brought to the Council of Six. Before he could meet with them, however, a powerful, magical storm swept through the port. While there was a significant amount of damage, Dorite was able to prevent the storm from sweeping the city away entirely. He used the tragedy as an example of why he was needed on the guard: to guard against and protect the port city from natural, magical threats. He was then allowed to join the guard and start his own wing for his new goal. |
