Thunder Hollow began, not as the dream of a clan in some young dragon's mind, but as the site of a jaded young zoologist's quest for fame within her sphere of influence. Intrigued by descriptions of strange, twisted beasts in a forest otherwise unmarked in history, clan founder Storm approached the land that would become Thunder Hollow with scientific curiosity and nothing more. When it became apparent that the described creatures were perfectly mundane beasts that had simply been caught in the grips of the Shade, Storm even dabbled with the idea of leaving for more promising horizons, completely unaware of the rich story waiting to unfurl beneath the canopy. Only her compassion for the tortured beasts of the forest and interest in learning more about their magical ailment persuaded her to stay long enough to become deeply and permanently involved. Storm's decision exposed her to hidden secrets beyond her imagination's wildest concoctions. The land wasn't simply suffering from a temporary infestation; it was thoroughly corrupted by an aggressive Shade remnant that would do anything to keep the land within its grasp. What magic once existed there had been fragmented and consumed; its very ley-lines had been shattered beyond all repair. Dragon bones lay barely concealed beneath carpets of moss and fallen leaves, the product of many an intrigued party being lured to their demise by the forest's fertile exterior. Scattered ruins spoke to a rich history that no source could attest. Storm returned to her encampment on the Cliffs above the forest every night with a new loose thread to investigate. It was overwhelming and yet endlessly captivating, a mystery worth exploring not only for notoriety's sake but also to satisfy a deep instinctive curiosity. Storm maintained caution and distance, inciting the simmering Shade to take increasingly firm measures to ensnare her. She was an fly dancing in the gaping maw of a flytrap, unknowingly a hair's touch away from destruction at every turn. Just as Storm began to make some traction in unraveling the many mysteries at work in the woods, another wrench was thrown into the works. Sweeping in from across the Sea and utterly addled by the amnesia of a long Search, a belligerent young Guardian arrived one bright morning and claimed the land as his sacred Charge. When Storm drifted down from her cliffside encampment to begin her research anew, she found herself suddenly confronted by a seething dragon many times larger than herself. The Guardian was outraged by her presence, considering her to be a meddlesome threat to his Charge. Her invasive research efforts simply would not do; he became dedicated to barring her from the land entirely and would harass her any time he discovered her snooping around. Though faced with the same Shade-possessed creatures and mysterious happenings which so intrigued Storm, he remained resolute in his belief that the land was perfect just as it was. For several weeks, the two were locked in a bitter struggle, slowly straying farther and farther into the Shade's hold the longer they fought. Finally, when one particular confrontation pulled the two into the nocturnal hours where the Shade finds particular strength, it struck with a precision that very nearly killed them both. An ancient creature from the depths of the wood ambushed them with unnatural strength and swiftness. Storm was crushed by the beast's jaws, and the Guardian--Sterling--suffered grave wounds by its claws. For once in the span of their feud, the two united for the sole purpose of deterring the creature. Ragged and bleeding, they escaped together across the sea and took refuge on a nearby island. Unfortunately, the horrors of that night did not end even as they fled the Shade's grasp. The island, too, was under the influence of something powerful and vindictive, and that something took immediate offense to the presence of the weary young dragons. The moment they collapsed on its shores, it cursed them without pause or remorse; Storm's legs grew immobile, and Sterling's wings were paralyzed. With each wounded on their only working limbs, survival on the island became a perilous and uncertain struggle. |

Occupying several blocks near the Port Quarter of Thunder Hollow Proper, the Guildhall is a sprawling set of apartments and offices for the sole use of the Gatherers' Guild. All Guild members are required by contract to reside within the Guildhall, where they are intended to form close bonds with their fellow Guildsdragons. If a dragon joins the clan without a coin to their name, they can rest assured that the Gatherer's Guild has a warm bed and tidy income waiting just for them here in the Guildhall.

Colorful wooden lairs lean against the stone of the Quarry, and bright windsocks, banners, and kites bob in the air above to denote the good cheer of its residents.

The beastfolk here are largely autonomous and interact rarely with the rest of Thunder Hollow outside of trading the medicinal herbs, fungi, and amphibians they farm.

Though Thunder Hollow has offered the island completely to its original residents, the aviar who live there have chosen to remain a part of the clan and enjoy its services and protection as they settle back into their ancestral home.

- Thunder Hollow employs and attracts a lot of primal dragons. The lack of ley lines dampens the destructive effects of some primals, and primals are some of the only dragons capable of working any sort of magic in its ley darkness. Primal dragons innately generate and can use elemental magics only.
- Because magic is an important part of draconic aging, dragons age slower in Thunder Hollow after a certain point. Hatchlings age more-or-less as normal until physical maturity, but, after that, physiological aging and magical maturation slow considerably. Because of this, Imperials find Thunder Hollow a particularly appealing locale. The threat of an uncertain lifespan looms less strongly in Thunder Hollow, at the expense of failing to increase in power.
