Serkan was constantly on edge.

It had always been like that. It could numb itself to it most of the time, but there were times when it found itself just snapping back to deadly sharpness, where it could feel its heart beating like a rabbit’s hop, quick and frantic; where it could feel the beads of sweat rolling down their neck, and see their pupils sharpened and thin, afraid.

It was afraid, or just anxious to an alarming degree. That was what the doctors it visited always told it. They gave it sleeping *****, calming medicine, soothing remedies — none of them ever worked.

It was something else. Something much more deeply rooted. Something that couldn’t ever go away.

Serkan was constantly on edge.

And it didn’t know how to stop it.
