Description These dragons always have a purple-range pharaoh/sarcophagus, and are therefore dark in color with accents of purple, which can range from a deep purple like shadow to a much brighter shade like Orchid. Thistle, Fog, and Mist are not preferred for their lack of pigment. Their tertiary should be in the purple range, but blacks and whites are also acceptable. Blues and Pinks are extremely rare and not usually thought of as true Midnight Orchids. The tertiary gene should compliment the rest of the dragon. Eyes that match their colors like arcane, shadow, and dark sclera are highly valued, but as these dragons are found all over Sorneith, all eye types and colors are permitted. This also means that all breeds are permitted and can be seen, although some are more popular than others. Fae and Wildclaw are the traditional breeds of Midnight Orchids because their origins are from the arcane and nature flights, but Pearlcatchers and Imperials are also frequently seen because of their connection to the light flight. Registration All dragons meeting the color and gene requirements are eligible to be registered as a Midnight Orchid. Registered dragons will have a pin in their bio linking back to the this page. There are several tiers of registration available, depending on the dragons color pattern. An official registration can be found in Asterid's bio. Tiers Diamond: XXY or XXX Gold:XYX, XYY Silver: Near miss XXY or XXX (colors within 2 of each other) Bronze: XYZ Ancient: Aberrations or Undertides with any color pattern Inaugural: Reserved for the dragons who founded the subspecies immediately after phar/sar came out. Do not have to be any of the other requirements. False: Dragons who would qualify for Diamond, Gold, or Silver, but are instead pink, blue or white instead of purple. Naming Conventions There are no hard rules for the names of Midnight Orchids, but there are some conventions that tend to be followed. These include: names of flowers and plants, both common and scientific names, names of purple gemstones or other natural materials, names of types of magic they excel at. Names of Midnight Orchids tend to be fluid, with dragons receiving a generic name as a hatchling and then either receiving or giving themselves a new name as they mature. Dragons that were born of Midnight Orchids but do not meet the requirements themselves and are going to be exalted are often named Orchid. Names are often repeated within family lines. Lore Midnight Orchids are an ancient species, formed by an amalgamation of magic from several of the deities, primarily the Arcanist and Gladekeeper. Nobody exactly knows their origins as they are so ancient. Historically, they could only be found deep in the Viridian Labyrinth, although recently they can be found all across Sornieth, particularly within the Starfall Isles and Sunbeam Ruins. They can be found in the depths of forest, caves and other dark places. They have an affinity for magic, particularly Botanokinesis. They crave knowledge and books on all types of magic and botany. Customization All Familiars, apparel, scenes, and skins should follow the same color scheme of purple, black, gray, and white with accents of pink and blue. Coveted items include:
