Biography
((For some background, I have decided to rewrite my lore a bit and base it on the sorts of things that interest me OUTSIDE of FR so I might actually maintain interest. This means I'm looking at demons and faeries, so I rolled with it.
In my lore, there's Sornieth, the fae realms, the daemon realms, and the tomb of nightmares. Sornieth is connected to both the fae and daemon realms, and the realms are both connected to the tomb, but Sornieth and the tomb are not directly connected to each other. Each realm has a Court of 7-11 members (I havent decided, but I think I might base them on the major arcana of the tarot), and those members are the most powerful of the realms, usually fighting to gain and hold power by any means they can. Sornieth is.. well... Sornieth. The gods in my canon are just super powerful spirit entities that only reside on Sornieth and don't enter the other realms. The Court members are on par with the power of Sornieth's deities. They aren't the ONLY such powerful beings, just the ones who want to be a part of the court, and I'm thinking the court may amp up their power somehow, that being why the positions are coveted.))
Morrigan is the most powerful member of the Fae Court. Although she is an immensely powerful sorceress, she does not seek power or control, merely to continue her arcane experimentation and study without disruption. This has earned her a coveted spot in the Court, and also kept the others from trying to oust her out of fear or jealousy.
Morrigan's only interests outside of the esoteric mysteries of magic are her daughters. After seeking out a powerful mate with whom she could produce offspring she deemed worthy of her time, the resulting nest produced two daughters and a son. The son stayed with his father, while Morrigan took the daughters for herself and went home. It was a strangely clinical transaction for her, but she has never been known for showing undue... or due... affection.
This only marginally changed with the arrival of her daughters to the Court. Some of the other Court members were angry at her presumption to automatically include her progeny in the most powerful of the realm, but being terrifyingly proficient in magic has given anyone who would have made a complaint cause to reconsider. Detractors were further silenced when the hatchlings proved to be just as gifted as their mother, and the children soon became favorites of the Court.
While Morrigan may not have been interested in socializing, the same couldn't be said for her girls.
Moirai, older of the two, is outspoken, charismatic, and ambitious. She is called the Court's Darling, and is known far and wide both in the fae realms and out of them. Through the mixing of her mother and father's genetics she has a wealth of magical ability to work with, but the clash of the two magical bloodlines gave her an interesting natural talent with illusions. One might be eager to call her magic true creation, but once the life of her creations is complete, they simply fade out of existence, back into the aether they came from.
Moirai's illusions ARE incredibly strong, however, and nigh impossible to disbelieve in. They can be manipulated, interacted with, and even cause true injury. Despite this, her social charms are considered to be her own. She rarely uses her illusions to alter existing things, preferring to use her imagination to come up with more fantastical phantasms. Still, she can be bribed in a myriad of ways into using her magic on behalf of others, and freely does so for her sister.
Speaking of Fortuna, the younger of the sisters is more reserved and polite, but nonetheless enjoys the banter and intrigue of the Court. Less prone to exuberance, she is often sought out by relatives of Court members rather than members of the Court itself. Her less threatening demeanor does not, however, mean she is less dangerous. No, while Moirai may be a true socialite and use magic suited to frivolity, Fortuna's speciality evolved into something darker: curses. Oh, she doesn't necessarily hex people directly, but her expert ability to weave fate has caused more strife among the other members of Court than they will ever know.
Cursing her peers is not the only use of her ability, however. She can also manipulate the fate of items and energies. If a warm summer rain is just what the courtyard needs to flourish, Fortuna can curse the sun to dim. If a lost item needs to be found, she can curse the item to cease its wandering. While most of her acquaintances would argue that this isn't a curse but a blessing, Fortuna knows what she is and how her magic works. It is only through negative applications that the positive affect-effects of her magic can happen.
Fortuna does occasionally have struggles with this aspect of her magic, but her sister Moirai is always there to encourage her and defend her from herself. The two have been fast friends since their nesting days, and one cannot look at them without knowing they are the true to each other.
For her part, Morrigan is as proud as any mother. Her children are strong, wilful, and everything she could have hoped for. They help her with her experiments now and then, but for the most part they simply live as they wish, loved by the Court and buoyed in relative isolation from Sornieth and its mundane troubles, much less the Daemon court or the Tomb.
