Jael could only remember the fighting and his mother screaming to run and hide away when the monsters attacked. Among all the chaos the little coatl did his best to find his family but couldn’t. The claws and snarls that the fight brought forth came closer to the poor baby as he was searching for his mother and sisters vigorously. The body falling next to him snapped him awake however and made him quickly scurry off, far away from this battle. Only there was no escape as the fighting was all around him so he did the only thing he could think of and that was… hide. Hide under some debris and hope the monsters wouldn’t find him in their endless fight with the dragons. He closed his eyes and hoped this to be a nightmare but…
When he opened his eyes again, the fight was gone but so were the dragons and more importantly his family. Jael came out of his little hiding spot and looked around, seeing the carnage and destruction the monsters had brought. He called out for his family “mom! Vicks! Chatt! Valmai!” but they didn’t answer as they had gotten out during the battle. He didn’t want to believe this, so he started to look in every nook and cranny for his family until he heard noise from a tunnel behind him. Jael thinking it was his family turned around. Not a dragon walked around the corner but a scavenger, a monster hoping to find something after the carnage. Jael was quickly noticed by this monster as his eyes locked to that of the little coatl. Without a moment's hesitation the creature leapt out to him, but luckily Jael was fast enough and could run away into another tunnel. Afraid as he was he kept running until he collapsed and started to sob, realising he had lost his family and home.
After that day, Jael made himself a promise. He would find his family again and protect any other dragon or hatchling in danger from those monsters. His search brought him to a lot of corners of the caves and eventually led him to the outside, where he met Razor. She led him to his new life and he joined the House of the Wildcoats. Where he could help dragons in need and help them train to be strong as well. Just like he taught himself inside the caves.
His search for his family never ended and one day he still hopes to find them.
