Biography

They offer you some freshly tapped birch water.
aspen-aspen-trees.gif
Betula is a sapient tree, an intelligent birch that takes the form of a dragon to better understand the species. They cannot talk, only listen, finding themselves eavesdropping on passing conversations in the lair while they hide in plain sight. They come from the same grove as Popple, though belong to a completely different family of trees.
They cannot fly as their wings are merely an illusion of heavily-leaved branches. The leaves are more rooted to their stems. During colder times in the year, their leaves go yellow and eventually a fierce red before finally shedding. When it's spring, pollen-sensitive dragons tend to steer clear of the planty couple, as both seem to readily produce the substance in a fine, yellow peppering. Their skin is thick, ripped in thick dark stress tears, and "eyes" where branches have broken off, giving the impression of multiple eyes. The outer bark is also quite delicate, constantly sloughing and stripping in papery scrolls and wisps.
If tapped, they produce a watery sap that can be reduced in a uniquely sweet syrup, for candies and other sweet applications. The sap can also be consumed without prior preparation in the form of birch water.
