- Beast Keeper -

Ever since Zephyr was little, he has been quite the independent and intelligent dragon. Since he’s never known who his parents are, he would always have to fend for himself. However, he was very good at doing so, and the fact that he was unsure of who his parents were never seemed to bother him. Occasionally, he would start to wonder about it, but he also didn’t really mind since he thought he was doing just fine on his own.
Something that has always caught Zephyr’s attention are familiars and animals. When he was very little, he found a small stack of books all based around either familiars or animals. Some books explained what the creatures are and what they eat, and others explained how to train them and make them trust you. He would study these books for hours on end. He would often love just sitting quietly and observing these creatures in their natural habitats, trying to match the creatures in the books with the ones he would see in real life.
One day, as he was observing a few creatures' interactions from a distance, Zephyr saw one of the most interesting familiars he had ever seen in real life emerge from a bush. It appeared to be a blue rabbit, deer, and bird hybrid. Zephyr started flipping through one of the familiar books to find the name of the familiar, keeping an eye out to make sure the familiar didn’t scurry away. Then, he found a familiar that matched the description. The familiar was a Wolpertinger. The most interesting thing about the Wolpertinger to Zephyr was the colors. In the Windswept Plateau, most of the creatures he would see in real life were a shade of green. But this blueish purple shade was unlike anything Zephyr had ever seen. He thought it kind of looked like himself. He watched as the blue Wolpertinger ate berries off the ground.
Suddenly, a bunch of woodland animals started approaching him. They then started to swipe and scratch him. Zephyr was shocked and did the first thing that came to mind.
“Hey! Stop that! Get away from it!” Zephyr leaped in front of the creatures and tried to pull the Wolpertinger away from the animals.
“Be nice!” Zephyr scolded. The animals stopped and stared at him. After a brief moment, they then scurried away, as if they understood what he had said. Zephyr gently placed the Wolpertinger down.
“Are you alright? Did they hurt you?” Zephyr examined the creature. He saw a few scratches on the Wolpertinger’s right wing. Zephyr reached in his bag and pulled out a bandage wrap he found and had held on to for a situation like this. He first made sure the Wolpertinger didn’t feel nervous or threatened by him. He offered the Wolpertinger a few berries, as it said in his book. When the Wolpertinger seemed to be comfortable with Zephyr, he carefully wrapped the bandage around the injured wing.
“There we go. Is that better?” Zephyr backed away slightly to make sure the bandage was on properly. The Wolpertinger instantly ran back to Zephyr and nestled its head into Zephyr's chest.
“Awe, you’re welcome little guy!” Zephyr gently pet the creature.
“You should probably get going so you can get back to your family, right?”
The Wolpertinger looked up at Zephyr. Something within Zephyr knew exactly what the Wolpertinger was trying to tell him. “I don’t have a home, please let me stay with you.”
Zephyr hugged the little creature with his arm and brought it close to him.
“Of course, little guy. Y’know, I need a name for you. Unless, you already have one?”
The Wolpertinger looked up at him, patiently waiting to be given one.
“Alright,” Zephyr thought for a moment, “How about… Wren?”
Wren smiled and made a small squeal of delight.
“Alright then, Wren! Let’s go look for some food, shall we?”

Zephyr and Wren stuck by each other’s side for many years to come. Eventually, Zephyr got word that there was a nearby clan in desperate need of someone who knows how to tame familiars. Over the years, Zephyr had become an excellent trainer. He decided to go to the clan and offer his abilities. The clan was grateful for his help. They offered for him and Wren to stay in the clan as the official beast keeper and after a little bit of consideration, Zephyr gladly accepted.
