Kelpie

Eelgrass dragons are an elusive variety of ancient, nocturnal Veilspuns who evolved to live in underwater colonies. They live in beds of seagrass within the shallow estuaries of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, where they have excellent camouflage for themselves as well as providing protection for their eggs and young. Their complementary green coloration combined with the variety of delicate scale patterns mimicking natural underwater shadows and ripples, helps to disguise the Eelgrass dragons in the long seagrass beds where they make their homes.

During the day, these small dragons wrap their tails around the vegetation to anchor themselves in place while they rest, their long manes helping them blend in as they move and flow hypnotically with their surroundings. Their manes not only help camouflage them, but visually distract any nearby prey, making Eelgrass dragons very effective hunters even when resting. Skilled and deadly underwater foragers, they will eat almost anything, and they especially help protect fragile kelp beds from destruction by voracious purple sea urchins, which happen to be among their favorite snacks.
