the day hectate opened her eyes, she was greeted with shimmering crystals everywhere she looked. this must be home, she thought. and so, the little goddess stayed there for as long as she could— which turned out to be several millennials. taking one step outside the cave was a courageous move for someone as naïve as her; the immortal was immediately greeted by several other deities. there was apate, her best friend since childhood. despite how gloomy the other could get, hectate knew it was just her powers taking a toll on her. then there was aphrodite, the most beautiful fae she had ever met. and the only fae, in all honesty. with aphrodite’s flirtatious personality, hectate was often left to clean up her messes. at long last...there was hermes. hectate’s first and only love.

he was a thief for sure, taking her heart away and not even returning it. hectate’s stone-cold attitude definitely developed through this time, along with her maturity from a young goddess to an older and wiser witch. hectate still resides in her crystal cove, rarely accepting any visitors. aphrodite has not come see her in years, and she could care less. estranged connections with all of the gods, besides the neutral and evil ones. this was not the future she had been planning for herself, however, things are always changing. she cannot expect too much and wait for something unconfirmed.

mortals are strange in her opinion, as they have such a short lifespan, yet want to do everything they can in that limited time. how carefree! hectate unintentionally blesses a few of them at moments, which could explain the flurry of magic found during fights with the shade-touched. hectate is also struggling with the curse on ares, which has forced him to take a child’s form. the war god is more than upset, and oftentimes uses her company to complain. the witch cannot find the heart to chase him away; besides, having someone to talk to is nice. even if their body isn’t the same...they were from the same timeperiod she was.

hectate first met her companion in her early years of witchcraft, when she accidentally summoned a spirit from another world. it refused to leave when she cast the deportation spell, so she was helplessly stuck with the unpleasant dark energy for a hundred years. hectate had gotten used to them, so when she finally cast a deportation spell successfully, she was reluctant to let it go. shockingly enough, they appeared to have the same opinion with her. therefore, hectate is now accompanied by her little spirit wherever she goes— it helps her collect materials for potions and rituals too. sometimes folklore suggests, the villagers can catch a glimpse of an odd-looking creature rummaging in the forest shadows before taking flight into the sky. of course, that’s none other than hectate’s companion.

as a true follower of hectate, one must need to know what to say and what to withhold. if anyone ever asks in curiosity or more, all that should be said is, “there’s no greater witch than hectate herself.”
