"The Astronomer observes the stars from below and wishes to join them"

Nova considers herself very capable and powerful, but she was not granted any powers by Kerria. She says the stars do not have anything to offer her. Despite this, she understands the movement of the skies better than anyone else and uses this to assist the Star-Worshippers in rituals and important events. She wants to be considered one of the Celestials, though, and not just an accessory to their worship. Every chance she gets, she strives to prove that she is one of them. She even used magic to alter her feathered wings to show constellations that shift and change when she moves them to mimic the star-studded scales of the Celestials. She hopes that one day, she will be considered worthy of a power of her own. While living with the cult, she fell in love with Soulcatcher, the nephew of Kerria. Despite his vicious exterior, she believes there's a good dragon in him somewhere. Or maybe, she just thinks her relationship will better her chances of gaining powers from Kerria. Who can say? Not even Nova is entirely sure her actions are purely of good intent. Either way, she and Soulcatcher are somewhat close to happy. Nova is a magician, having studied magic all her life. She loves it more than anything, even her family. She feels that her ability to do magic gives her purpose, and it makes her useful. And to the Star-Worshippers, if you aren't useful, then you're nothing. She's been a follower of Kerria since she was young, and spent the latter half of her adolescence studying her teachings and powers. All she's ever wanted is to feel important, and Kerria gave her that feeling. She spends all night watching and documenting the skies, waiting for a comet or eclipse or meteor shower, so she can watch the rituals of the Celestials. Nova watches her husband and daughter become so much more under these changes in the stars. She sees their powers grow and nearly overtake them, and they transform into these beautiful and powerful dragons. They seem to shine and flicker like the stars above. She can't help but feel jealous, wanting so badly to have something take control of her so she can become something beyond her own abilities. Everything she does for the cult is twinged with envy, because they have everything she wishes she had. |
