BIRTHPLACE
|
Waveheart, First of his Name, Mother of the Clan, and Keeper of Tides, hatched amid seafoam, swirling in the surf of the Kelp Beds. A rough storm swell had torn through the nursery, and though the currents robbed her from the safety of a nest, they provided something far greater.
Tide after tide, every lunar cycle churned Waveheart to a new home. Life was only constant in its perpetual change, and she was freer, wiser, and ever adaptable for it. He was protected, even without a lair or parents to harbor him. At sunhigh, the crashing spray wreathed him in reeds, forming both a shield from intense noon heat and a veil from hungry eyes; come moonrise, the greenery became a cradle, rocking her to sleep. On some nights the water was so still, the horizon became a starry bridge melding wind and water. It was in the company of those stars when Waveheart found his first tether, an Imperial Air Dragon named Aquaris. The two were instantly inseparable and spent the remainder of their hatchling days diving and breaching across the Sea of a Thousand Currents- youth was not the slightest bit wasted on them. But hatchlings grow up... and on a night when the moon was new and the sea mirrored the heavens as it had when Waveheart and Aquaris met, there were no stars. Dawn rose, the sun outshone all except Aquaris' constellation and a shard of starless night sky, curled up beside him. Somewhere in that lightless night, Aquaris found Zenith. Seeing this as the start of a cheery marauding triad, Waveheart welcomed the newcomer, but her and Aquaris' childhood frolics dwindled from regular to rarity as her friend became distant. Consumed with infatuation, he developed an uncharacteristic obsession with claiming the perfect lair for hatchlings he suddenly planned to have. Waveheart, an ever-loyal fae, joined the search, but the Tsunami Flats are competitive real estate, so the young group were forced to find shelter in the ruinous caverns surrounding the Drowned Sanctum. Zenith and Aquaris were quick to claim a lazuli-encrusted nook of the new lair, storing themselves away thereby passing all clan duties to Waveheart. He tried her best to provide a true home with safe harbor to all, both for his preoccupied friend and any wayward dragons. Soon enough, others indeed discovered the clan and nestled right in. Greyfeather, Mae, and Vyara were first to arrive, and word quickly spread. From across the Scarred Wasteland, Vana and Vioore heard of this paradise in the abyss, and sent a tiny hatchling guarded by five fierce warriors to bolster ranks. The lair now bustling with activity, Waveheart sought the company of his old friend. However, Aquaris was more entwined with Zenith than ever, and to escape his lonesomeness, the fae found himself often in the soothing company of Greyfeather. Naivety and vulnerability tend to breed comfort now at the cost of comfort later, and too soon Waveheart and Greyfeather became parents to three squirming hatchlings. One can imagine the stress two first generation dragons might feel when suddenly they find themselves responsible for their own tiny clones. Coupled with what seemed the death of his friendship with Aquaris, and Waveheart was distraught. Soon after her first brood's hatching, Waveheart abandoned their deep lair for the surface, desperate for relief.
