Biography
A special tidbit about Bristle's name: Though it's spelled like the word 'bristle', meaning raising one's
Rowan found Bristle in a dragon sanctuary. As a hatchling she was small and weak; her goat-like eyes shown with innocence. No parents accompanied her, likely somewhere far away with no attention directed at the hatchling they'd abandoned.
Rowan always did have a bleeding heart.
This was long before Rowan ever entered into Clara's flight. He and Bristle travelled through the forest together; he taught the young Skydancer everything he knew, from which mushrooms were good to eat, to the trick to catching fireflies. As she grew, Rowan found Bristle had a great affinity for magic. While he wasn't proficient at it himself, he did know of great Magician: Red. Rowan brought Bristle to him, and he happily took her on as an apprentice.
Bristle absolutely bloomed under the Banescale's teaching. He focused more on healing magic than battle magic after she expressed interest in it. Soon enough Bristle could heal even the deepest wounds, and she and Red formed an almost sibling-like bond. They spent most of their time together, either discussing new spells or crafting potions.
She didn't visit with Rowan that much anymore. And despite his paternal feelings towards her, Rowan didn't try to spend more time with her. She was happy with Red, she didn't really need him anymore. Every dragon leaves the nest.
So, one morning Rowan left. His need to travel had sat deep in his bones for too long. He'd stayed stationary so as to keep Bristle safe, but she was a grown dragon now and could take care of herself. With a teary goodbye from both parties, Rowan took off from Bristle and Red's home. He didn't know exactly where he was heading, but he'd heard tales of a dragon as old as The Beast himself who'd made a flight dedicated to protecting dragons. Maybe he'd head there.
After Rowan left, Bristle threw herself back into her studies. She understood his need to go, she understood how much it hurt him to leave her. She did. But as Bristle curled up that first night, she couldn't help but notice how hollow her heart felt.
Suddenly, her studies didn't giver her the same joy as they used to. Her magic became weaker and weaker, not because she wasn't trying, but because her heart just wasn't in it. Red noticed the change quickly, and instead of trying to cheer her up, he began gathering everything she'd need to follow after Rowan.
When he gave her the items, Bristle refused. Her studies were important, she still had more to learn. But Red just smiled at her and said that her heart was more important than her mind. She need to find her father. Bristle refused to cry at hearing Rowan referred to as her dad.
Before she left, Red taught Bristle one last spell. By building just a bit of magic in her heart, Bristle could create small beings of pure magic to help her in her search. She made them look like fireflies.
Now, Bristle roams the forest still searching for her father. Along the way she heals any hurt dragon she finds. When asked, the hatchlings she's helped will say they remember bright fireflies following in her path.
