-once she stops badgering him about getting stronger, they get along fine, though her insistence at him becoming the best at whatever he does does grate on him at times- he likes being mediocre and enjoying himself. if he becomes good at something he enjoys, that's fine with him, but he doesn't want to have to get better at it for the sake of being "the best".
-worries about her and the way she pushes herself to be stronger. thinks it's veering into destructive practices and that she's eventually going to reach a point where she's going to hit a wall

Sunshine's tail flicked as the hatchling pounced on another small creature, probably a bug again based on its heat signature. A delighted squeal punctuated by the flare of small wings escaped the tiny dragon, and Sunshine turned to watch.
"Beetle!!" The other hatchling scampered over to jump on him, knocking him away from his prize.
"My beetle now!!" They scuffled in the snow, the poor bug scuttling away as fast as its little body could handle with the two dragons wrestling right besides it.
Sunshine's chest rumbled with her laugh. She'd forgotten what hatchlings were like. "It's getting away, you know." The first one wailed, trying to wiggle free from where he was pinned on his back.
"Get off!!" The other relented, sitting back on her haunches with a snicker. He took off in hot pursuit of the bug in a heartbeat. Sunshine followed, albeit slowly so as to keep the other hatchling in her line of sight too.
They caught up with him, heads buried deep in a scrubby bush, twin tails twirled tightly together.
"Did you get it?" One of the heads pop out at this, brow furrowed.
"No." The other head, from inside the bush, protests. "I just want to look! Let me look..." He whimpers, then the first head pokes back into the leaves.
Sunshine first hears, then feels the pounding of feet as the other hatchling homes in on the other's fully dropped defenses. She steps in the way of the incoming tackle. "Your pal here's trying to jump you again." The hatchling protests, albeit weakly as her other head starts laughing raucously. Sunshine gently nudges her with a heel, a silent cut it out. "Do you want to bring the beetle along with us for the trip?"
"I wasn't 'trying to', I would've gotten him if you didn't get in the way." Her other head stopped laughing to comment after the first. "He was wide open. He'd be dead if this was real." A wrinkle forms upon Sunshine's forehead. That's... a bit concerning.
"I can bring it?" One of his heads popped out of the bush, eyes widening. The other head muttered something inaudible, a huff of a noise that barely cleared the brush.
Sunshine blinked, gaze flicking from one to the other as they talk. "What part of this has any life or death stakes? Play nice." Another series of muttering from the bush. She turns towards him. "Yes, you can bring it. It may be better for you to just eat it, though. It may try to fly away when we fly back to my clan."
The hatchling shoves against her heel. "Mother says only deadmeat aren't always always prepared for an attack!" The other head is chanting 'Deadmeat!' with gusto and volume as the first explains. Sunshine shifts to press back against her, something of a frown spreading across her face. Definitely concerning. Before she can say anything, however, there's a shriek, then a wail, in the bush that sends Sunshine's pulse into the sky. She snaps back around with a leg drawn up in preparation to rip into a monster, only for the hatchling to slink out of the bush, heads down.
"You ate it!!" The first head is distraught; he whines and shoves his snout against the other head's. The other stares solidly at the ground between his paws. "Can we go now? I want to go." The second is wailing again. "Why did you eat it!?"
Sunshine exhales, calming as it became apparent there was no danger to be found, all else forgotten for the moment. "Yeah. Yeah, we can go now."
The remainder of the walk to the meeting point is thankfully uneventful. The boy stays glued to Sunshine's belly, though, and she nearly trips on him a few times. Eventually he squeezes out in front of her, though Sunshine's relief at the removal of him as a hazard is short lived as he sits right there. She stops, head cocking to look down at the smaller dragon as she waves off irritation.
His voice is quiet. "I'm tired. Can we stop..?" The other head is silent, eyes cast off in the direction of where the girl is walking. She scratches at the edge of a rock a few paces ahead, attention elsewhere. "My feet hurt..." Sunshine swallows. They're supposed to be meeting Callisto soon, Sunshine has more things to get to today, they can't exactly stop, but...
She lays down to get closer to his level, stretching a wing out to make it easier for him. "I can carry you on my back. Does that work instead?" She can see the way his gaze flicks to the other hatchling, uncertainty on his brow. She turns to the girl as well, gears turning in her head. "Would both of you like to ride on my back? It may be faster traveling if I carry both of you and run." She can feel the boy stiffen up, freezing where he is as Sunshine extends the offer to the other hatchling too, but the other turns with a look of offense on her face at the suggestion.
"No. I'm so fast. I don't need your help. I can outrun you too, just watch." Sunshine snorts.
"Sure." Her gaze turns back to the boy, and she shifts her wing in silent invitation. He considers then, after a moment, clambers on. The girl scoffs at this, but says nothing. Little claws press against Sunshine's back as the boy turns around then curls up between her wings. She stretches them up and back and she folds them properly again, hoping to offer the hatchling some more stability before standing slowly so he can get his bearing. She slips between gaits, getting comfortable with the unfastened weight on her back and his shifting and scrabbling, before catching up to the girl with a trot.
"You're fast, yes? Then let's run." The girl puffs up a bit at this.
"I'm super fast. I can get there first." She broke off, bolting in the direction they've been walking. Sunshine gives her a good few paces, something of a grin spreading across her face. Points for confidence, at least. She turns to talk to the boy.
"You ready to win this?" The sullen head suddenly perks up, eyes brightening at the prospect.
"Can we?? Please!" Sunshine smiles, then turns and starts moving, increasing her speed slowly so as to not bowl her passenger over.
It only takes watching a few of the girl's paces for Sunshine to realize she's just as tired as the boy, though. Her strides are short and choppy, and Sunshine's heart aches with something she can't articulate at the sight. Sunshine slows, dropping to a trot, then a walk as they close the gap.
"Hey!" The boy pokes the back of her neck in indignation. "Why are you slowing?"
Sunshine doesn't answer, a mirthless, breathy laugh coming out in response.
By the time they arrive at the rocky outcropping where Callisto is sunning herself, the girl had slowed to a plod. Sunshine followed a few paces behind, despite the urging of the boy upon her back. Callisto gives their small group a once over.
"You're late." There's no bite to the words, amusement lacing her words.
Sunshine nods. "You know how it goes." She gives a less than subtle nod to the young dragons accompanying her. Callisto snorts.
"The ever-punctual Sunshine is has been deadlock by..." With this Callisto gestures to the youngsters with a flourish of a paw, "Small children." Sunshine shrugs, eyes trained on where the girl collapses into a sit ahead of the rocks, one head staring up at Callisto while the other turns to face Sunshine.
"I win." The head blows a weak raspberry as the body slowly creeps from a sit into a lay. The boy protests from Sunshine's back.
"She slowed down because you're slow! She let you win!!" Sunshine hushes him, catching the poisonous look the other hatchling shoots at him before she continues talking to Callisto.
"I can wrangle time to whatever shape I desire it. The children, however, do not bend to my whims." Callisto stretches her wings, pushing off the rocks to descend.
"Hm. Perhaps it's strange to find out that, for all the talk of your legendary task mastering, you are still beholden to the same problems Jess and I and many others deal with in the name of shepherding hatchlings."
"I'm just a dragon, unfortunately." Sunshine raises a brow. "One who believes those who can control hatchlings ought to be raised on a pedestal alongside the Eleven." Callisto snorts at this too, landing with some grace besides them.
"Agreed." She smirks. "Blasphemously so." Sunshine can only laugh in response.
The smooth motions of Callisto's flight lulls the hatchlings into a quick and easy sleep. Sunshine lets out a breath she didn't know she'd been holding to see the two at peace for once this afternoon.
"How's sleepy #1 and #2 doing back there?" Callisto shoots a look back at Sunshine. "Do either of them have names?"
"'m not sleeping..." Once of the boy's heads respond, a murmur of denial despite the way he barely lifts the chin, eyes closed.
"One out cold. The other trying to prove you wrong. And not that I know of." Sunshine gently nudges the hatchling with her shoulder, watching his drowsy sway. "Do you have a name that you've been hiding this whole time, or am I right to assume you don't have one?"
"Don't have one." He yawns, exposing small, glittering teeth for a moment. "Parents didn't give me one." Sunshine nods.
"That's not uncommon. Most of the youngsters like you that we take in get names from the clan. Unless, of course, you have any name requests off the bat." Sunshine flashes back to meeting Gabriel for the first time, his brow furrowed in determination with a name of his own choosing set down like a winning hand of cards. Even of the smallest of hatchlings can come prepared; the now vast Ridgeback had been smaller than she is at that point.
The boy hums softly. "I don't have... any... How do you pick..?"
"The clan as a whole can participate. Sometimes there's a name that just sounds right, or we take your likes and interests into account when naming you." Sunshine wraps her tail around her. "Sometime a nickname from the nursery sticks and becomes a full name. And sometimes-" Sunshine lets out a laugh, "Names come from feats. You keep catching bugs, you may get a bird name, like swallow, or thrush." She pauses. "And, probably, the adoration of the nursery aides. Most dragons like their dens bug-free."
He nods slowly, eyes still closed. "I like birds..... Thrush, you said?" He rocks a little bit, curling up more. "Like that...."
"I'll keep that in mind, then. Let the clan know, too." Sunshine noses him. "In the meantime, you may want to sleep. I'm sure you'll want to explore when we touch down."
"Mhm..."
