Fester.
Unlike what her heritage would suggest, meeting Fester was not a mistake. He was charming enough, sure, but Xanthocephalus knew that was only a guise to let her guard down. He was a parasite, after all, and she knew all he wanted was to spread his infectious bloodline. Xanthocephalus was not going to let him hurt anyone else. So it was only natural that, when he began to make a move on her, the Guardian practically threw himself at her, ensuring that she was going to be the one for him. When the time finally came, she was not surprised when her mate keeled over and died after their eggs were laid. She knew what to expect when her eggs first hatched, their dark and empty eyes soon filling with the red of the Scarred Wastelands before she could even blink. She couldn't meet their gaze after that. Loneliness was just as much in her bloodline as it was in theirs. With any luck, this curse would follow them and stop the lineage in its tracks. |

Duvian.
Xanthocephalus was (pleasantly?) surprised to see how honest the "Spiral" was about his motivations. "I don't want a relationship", he had said, "I just want my own hatchlings." She agreed, of course. She wasn't interested in a relationship with him, either. Both knew that the other wasn't entirely being truthful in their intentions, yet they went through with it anyway. While she didn't want to admit it, Xanthocephalus couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness when Duvian died. There had only been one hatchling that time. He was red, like his father, but his Guardian-like shape resembled her with eerie similarity. It took willpower on her end to ignore him. He's a parasite. He's a monster. Aryto.
After Duvian, Xanthocephalus had moved. She needed a fresh start, some place new. Which is how she ended up in the Crystal Forest and how she ended up meeting Aryto. A Pearlcatcher, who's scales twinkled like the stars, with soft purple eyes that simply captured her heart. And so despite her best efforts Xanthocephalus found herself falling for the dragon. Luck always seemed to be on the pearlcatcher's side, a statement that solidified itself once the two settled down and had hatchlings. He neither withered away nor disappeared, Aryto stayed by her side up until all but one of their hatchlings had grown up and left. She had to tell him eventually but... it could wait for now. Something about the dragon had repelled her curse (atleast from himself) and she was... happy, truly happy for the first time in awhile. |
