TO BEGIN, it was nothing short of a miracle that he was still... well, for lack of better terms, sane. Though given the things he had seen, he wasn't quite sure where to start. Sane, perhaps as he was, it didn't mean he felt entirely in control. There was something altered, deep in his mind; something having remained untouchable, touched in some forbidden way, now permanently unchangeable.

It's not so bad, he thought to himself weakly. Not all the time, anyways. He had seen things, things that would haunt him forever, but he had also gained things. Found purpose and understanding. Finally knew what it meant to truly know himself. There had always been something in his mind that had itched, something in the core of his being that hadn't been sitting quite right from the start. At least he knew what that was now.

He wasn't quite sure how he would explain this to others though. In truth he wasn't sure if he was supposed to. After seeing what it had done to him... no, he couldn't put anyone else through that. He was sure enough of that. If they managed to stumble upon it themselves? Congrats, here's your newfound unending sense of existential dread. Until he found someone like himself, he would keep this tucked away.

IN THE END, it seemed the others had decided to do the same with their discoveries. He had not heard from any of them, knew none of their names, but... there was this hunch. This feeling, like the itch that had sat deep in his mind, that he had seen them. Sometimes he would spot a dragon on his journeys that might stare at him a moment longer than others. One that might give him a slight nod of acknowledgement. One time, he'd met a Snapper who'd promptly blinked, choked on their drink, and scurried at the sight of him. He was so painfully alone.

No, he thought, stronger this time. Lonely, but not alone. And a part of him almost preferred it this way. There was no pressure to preform or conform. None of it had ever been his strong suit. Yes, he preferred it this way, despite the choking loneliness. Perhaps this was the multiverse's bittersweet way of trying to pay him back. He appreciated the effort, anyway.
