B I O G R A P H Y

The First Chapter

May was fine. Always, always fine. Besides, what was there to be not fine about? She lived in an empty mountain! Zero dragons, zero problems. Except maybe that zero dragons caused problems occasionally, but it was a ok.
May had been living on her own for 7 years now.
Her clan had grown too big for their ancestral home, the home of Sychra. They had decided to move “houses”. Except this wasn’t a oh moving down the street we'll see each other every other day! kind of move.
It was a nice knowing you sorry but we have to go maybe we’ll visit sometime kind of move. Her twin went with the est of the clan- leaving her alone as sole guardian and protector of the home.
She didn’t mind being alone anymore.
The first three years were hard. The first year she would wake up, walk into her parents nest to go give them a hug and then discover they weren't there. The second year she got over that, and she would wander the cave, unable to find anything to do. The third year she just couldn’t…

May yawned and stretched and moved out of her nest. She got up, got moving, started on the daily rounds. Feed the koi fish in the pond -check. Water the moss that’s too far away from the spring to get water on their own. She tended the vegetable garden, and fed the guinea pigs that lived in a small cave system throughout the mountain. She dusted the statue of Sychra and left and small offering of some electric blue lillies she had found and a bowl of rice with tikki masala in front of her feet.

She cleaned the healer's cave and organized the herbs- she hadn’t really needed to use them since the clan had left, but she had taught herself how to use them all, just in case they were every needed.
The small whispering voice in the back of her head murmured “what if you never use these herbs? What if you live alone until you die?” May shoved that voice back into the little corner it came from.
She headed from the healer’s cave to the main entrance and went to go check on the invention cave.
The invention cave had a huge, steel door, covered in gears and wires, so you could just press a button and the doors would swing open. They were genius and they fascinated her every time she went to go check on the invention cave.
There was this huge nest on a ledge right in front of the invention cave. This nest was possibly the most messy nest May had ever, ever seen- but it was very cozy. That's what mattered in the end, anyway.
When she got closer to the nest, she could hear the gentle whoosh of breath.
May's heart started pounding, hard enough she was sure that the dragon could hear it. Was someone watching her? Hunting her? She looked around, trying to find eyes peeking out of the crevices anywhere. Slowly she unsheathed a small hunting knife out of the pouch she carried on her waist. She held it tightly, searching for the intruder when a little snore came from the giant nest above her head.

How did Nashia end up here? May kept asking herself that question. What scared her the most was that she didn’t know the answer.
She shouldn’t be here.
Nashia, the tiny obelisk warrior, was not meant to be here.
She had scars, claw marks that raked across her front legs. Sliced down the left side of her face. Scars meant she was dangerous, and here was the only place that was safe.
Exactly three months and 23 days ago she had tried to visit her clan. She left the mountain unguarded and traveled for 6 days to get to the new clan home in the Earth territory.
When she got there, she could see the clan was prospering. New hatchlings scampered over ledges here and there, and she could see the happy dragons talking, working, cooking. They were happy here.
She had seen her parents. And her twin.

August.
She wasn’t the same.
