A highly independent dragon, Jakaros lived the beginning of his life as a nomad. He trusted no one, and grew a thick skin as a result of separation from other dragons. When in the presence of others, he was often curt or even violent, depending on his mood. This drake was alone in the world.

Jakaros was brought into the Singing Hollow clan by a stroke of luck. He had suffered grievous wounds in a battle with another dragon, and had barely escaped with his life. As it was, he found his way onto the Windswept Plateau half dead, and was suffering from fever when he was found by Celaeno. He decided that he might as well allow these dragons to heal and take care of him, and then he could be on his way.

As the days of his recuperation passed, however, he began to feel a new sort of fondness towards his caretaker, Celaeno. She was gentle and patient, never pushing him but always supportive. They grew close, and he revealed to her that he actually quite enjoyed creating things, and had a fire within that urged him to make new things. Celaeno began to bring him little tidbits, supplies for him to tinker with, and their friendship deepened. Eventually, as she helped him to branch out and meld into the ways of the clan, he found himself feeling something he'd never felt before. He tried to explain it to Celaeno, and suddenly it made sense.

The two have grown ever closer, and are practically inseparable. They work together on both projects and caretaking, and Jakaros has emerged from his shell, though he saves most of his words for his mate.
