The planets align, and something stirs... It was a once-in-a-lifetime event. Heartpiercer's top astronomers were setting up their best equipment to bear witness to an astrological event the likes of which had not occurred for generations. Pascal, the young son of Virgil, one of the most renowned scholars in the city and surrounding territories, was eager for the opportunity to show all of Sornieth that he could fill his father's shoes, despite having to stand on a stack of books to look through his telescope. As the planets shifted into position, onlookers were captivated by the ethereal glow radiating from Saturn's great rings. No one, however, could have predicted what happened next. Telescopes suddenly pivoted away from the gleaming planet, focusing instead on an object plummeting through the atmosphere. It arced through the sky, enveloped in golden flames, before landing a few miles east of Heartpiercer. Immediately, expert geologists were called in to examine it. The huge rock that had fallen from the sky was rugged and uneven, yet there was what could only be identified as intricate gold designs inlaid in its surface. The rock was still too hot for any non-fire-aligned dragon to approach, so for the sake of haste, Heartpiercer's Ice ambassador, who had been attending the ceremony, used his prodigious powers to create a field of cold air around the meteorite. But the rapid heating and cooling put the rock under strain, cracking its surface. Before a word could be said, the meteorite split open completely, revealing an interior of beautiful golden crystals, and an egg. After much deliberation, the egg was placed under the care of Nikolai, who vehemently opposed the suggestions of the Scientists' Guild to give it over to them "for the purpose of better understanding extraterrestrial life." Saturn, so named for his supposed place of origin and the halo surrounding his head that resembles the planet's rings, became an apprentice of the Astronomers' Guild in order to learn more about his mysterious celestial birth. He trained alongside Pascal, who was only about eight years his senior. The two quickly became fast friends, both motivated by a quest for knowledge. |
