Bloodvine and Loam

Two dryads who sprouted within the Ever-Autumn Wood, and were taken in by their brother, Peach.

Loam is the eldest of the two, from a different harvest entirely. Calm from the very beginning, she grew to be hardworking, modest, and kindhearted. Peach delighted in having such a personable sibling staying with him, and they grew to be close friends.

Bloodvine was found much later. Still very much a sprout, but already fiery and volatile in temperament. If Loam hadn’t taken Bloodvine under her wing, well, Peach couldn’t imagine how the younger dryad would have turned out under just his care. It was an unnerving thought.

In time, Vine grew weary and lethargic. In spite of her careful care and being raised to model herself after dragonkind, thick, hungry roots erupted from her body. It was determined after much desperate work that she was strangely anemic in spite of sharing the diet of her other - healthy - siblings.

It became apparent that she was built to live off blood - an experiment of their distant parents, perhaps - and was suffering for the lack of it. Peach instead supplemented her diet with vegetables and fruits he had learned were high in iron, alongside the occasional farm animal he could afford the loss of.

She did improve, but still felt dissatisfied, aware she was not getting “true” sustenance very often at all.

When she came of age, she slipped away from the farmhouse and hurried out into the world. She didn’t know if she would hunt for what she truly wanted or not, but she couldn’t handle how her brother and sister were stifling her any longer.

Loam bid Peach a quick farewell and hurried away the moment she realized her sister had ran off.

It would seem neither would see their brother ever again.
