If the deity favors the Coatl, it allows the Coatl to gently be pulled back to the relative safety of the ground. If the deity looks at the Coatl and thinks, "Dang, this is one terrible Coatl. Better take away its Gembond and turn it into a Nocturne," then it does just that.

Huffle is actually a very nice dragon, he just has a few issues that stand out more prominently than his redeeming qualities. Such as: interrupting dragons while they speak, showing off his gembond to the rest of the clan (they weren't impressed), putting books back on the wrong shelf, and luring young dragons into the Hewn City to be lost forever.
