Biography
Tolne and Rivion were devastated by their experience with the Nightmare Plague. They had been practicing Necromancers for quite some time, working as an unusual pair, but they were defenseless against this disease of mind and magic. For days they wandered in a blind haze, tormented by the memories of their ancestors and an existential fear of the Shade coming to consume their world, until they were saved by an unorthodox brand of healer - a family of dragons with unusually specialized dream magic.
The experience bent their minds on a fundamental level. They had always been set on a course to breed strength in the rest of the world, but now they had a reason, a dreadful enemy haunting their steps. They knew, deep in their hearts, that the Shade was coming to bring a final end to Sornieth, and as it stood now, there was no hope of stopping it when it did.
They decided, together, to breed that hope, even if it meant sacrificing themselves.
The pair swore themselves to the Shade, giving up the blessings they had worked for in exchange for its power, and dedicated themselves to mastering its twisted gifts. Once they had a comfortable level of control, they returned to the clan that had sheltered them in their darkest hours and began to challenge its warriors, training them one duel at a time to fight back against the magic of the Shade. Through challenge after challenge, they taught them to recognize and counter its power, to dodge and bind it, and ultimately, to cast it out again and again.
It was a brutal challenge for the pair, and the toll for such heavy use of the Shade's magic was steep, eating away at their own powers and lives, but it was worth it. It had to be. For them, there was no other way.
