Unlike her siblings, Noireve almost didn't hatch. There was no struggle from within, no crack in the shell...just utter stillness. Hours passed after the sickly twins made their way into the world, cursed though they might be, and this egg lay still. Silent. Soft sounds of grief could be heard from the nest within the castle walls. It was only that night, when the stars came out in the sky and the spirits danced in the dark, that Lunnox carried the all too still egg outside. She dug out a soft burrow in the snow and curled around it and watched the spirits in the sky.

Some say the Queen of Leylight had lost all hope that night, that she lay there watching the sky for a glimmer of the hatchling that had no doubt died within that shell. Those that know Lune, know better. Lunnox is made of perseverance and hope, and her daughter is too.

It was under the glimmer of moonlight that an all too familiar spirit appeared in the sky, only to make it's way down the frost touched glacier. The wolf moved though darkness, as if the night itself had been spun into the spirit, and then she lay her muzzle against the egg, her eyes on her granddaughter's. "She has your spirit, Lunnox. Nothing but starlight."

And it was under the song-filled moon, with her great-grandmother's spirit sitting in the snow alongside her mother, that Noireve finally entered this world. For all she had her mother's spirit, she was born a skydancer like her great-grandmother. Frail and delicate, but even then, as nothing more than the smallest of hatchlings, when she tipped her gaze up to the skies of Leylight, there was wonder and fierceness in her eyes.

Some say there are certain moments in life that define a dragon. If that is so, then Noire was defined before her first breath. Before her first look at the world around her. A spirit of starlight. Hope and wonder, a bit of light in the ever reaching dark.
