Entry Title: Built My Wings
Dragon Author: Caelesti
I built them
Step by step
Tracing outlines
Imperfect points
Feathers of paper
Of ink
Of brick and mortar
Of chocolate and dye
Feathers of uneven size
Leaves peaking through
Green and orange
Red and brown
Color fading
The more I grew
A peacock
A shrew
A magpie
A dove
I built new feathers
Changed my mind
Shaped new dreams
Covered my eyes
Listened to the rustling of wings
Others all around me
Born with wings of gold
Of silver of bronze
Diamonds and pearls
I dipped my feathers
In color
Painting over
Those imperfect lines
Sharpened points
Dulled them down
File in each hand
Shaped them to fit
To mold
The way I saw
The wings around me
I built them
Then rebuilt
Ripped away those that didn’t fit
Cut away those that didn’t grow
Rebuilt my wings to mirror the world
Rebuilt my wings to mirror an angel
Icarus would be proud
White and soft and gold and hard
Beautiful wings from my back
I put them there
But I miss
I miss the shapes
The hard edges and leaves
I miss the colors
Faded and worn
I built my wings
Again and again
I lost my wings
Again and again
I made them fit
I made them work
But sometimes I wish
I made them ugly
Sometimes I wish
I built them for me

oh im pleased to have written something enjoyable!! :D everyone had such nice entries and i absolutely had to read them all :0 i hope everyone doesn't mind the pings below but i had to gush. !! :D
@CrumbledCandy a bond between shattered feathers was written so well that i had to snoop in venus's bio and read more. i love this poem you wrote so much. the emphasis on her binding to 'higher' and 'lower' beings is so desperate and delightful.
@IndigoStarshine raccoon? was so cute. so silly. i love it. build my wings? u are of many talents. it has so much flowing enjambment i adore the fluidity !! i adored all of your works so much :3
@DismasYves i have never been so pleased to be beat. gosh i love ur poem sm.... its so soft and imaginative. and the final line. ugh. it feels like childhood <3 <3
@Sushispider1212, i love your story The Lantern-bearing Cat. gosh. in fact i love all the works u did,,, but i love the perspective of it coming from a cat, and i loved the final line tying it all together ! giving emotion to the lantern was so pulling. AAAA. all your stories were so good ! her eyes was so well-written...... you have a lovely style of writing vague sadness in a good way haha

Entry Title: A Winged Warning
Dragon Author: Caelesti
Caelesti taps his claws together, enjoying the way they sound. The rings on their tips clink pleasantly, like music, and the warm breeze of summer brings the scent of moss with it.
He inhales, blinking sightless eyes open and twisting around to face his wings. The feathers on his back move out-of-sync with the breeze around him, as if they have a mind of their own. They stiffen and relax oddly, sharp as a knife one moment and soft as a cloud the next, sending ripples of movement from where they connect to his back all the way to the tips, then back again.
One feather twitches more than the rest, jolting this way and that, as if trying to take flight. He carefully grasps it between his teeth, tugging gently until it’s free. The feather swoops upwards, riding the wind around him, before looping back and bopping him on the snout.
He smiles.
The feather shoots off, faster and faster, leaving him far behind. He makes no move to follow it, instead settling down at the base of a ginormous tree. He curls up among its roots, tilting his head this way and that, listening intently to the sound of rustling grass and chirping birds.
The feathered wings on his back flare outwards suddenly, puffing up as if agitated and brushing against the tree’s trunk harshly.
He frowns.
He clambers to his feet slowly, fluttering his wings until several larger feathers detach themselves. They sweep around him, a whirling circle of dance, and he walks forward without faltering, the feathers moving with him, a barrier of protection.
Each rock they touch, each flower they avoid, he seems to know. His tail lashes back and forth, never hitting the ground or trees around him, as he makes his way out of the open field and into the thick forest.
He moves faster and faster, the feathers on his back reaching out around him to feel the air. It’s eerily quiet in the forest, not a bird or bee to be heard, and yet he manages to move without a sound.
Eventually, he reaches a shallow cave and more and more feathers break off, darting in front of him to push into the space. They return carrying clumps of dirt, scraping at the walls of the cave until they fall away, revealing a narrow tunnel.
Caelesti ducks inside, feathers following, and within moments, the tunnel is gone from sight, dirt back in place. Not a trace left behind that he was once there.
