Ember

Ember always dreamed of flying to outer space. Ever since she was a hatchling she'd dream of space, stargaze, and fly as high as her wings could take her (or as high as her courage would allow). When she heard of the cultists of the clan, the ones who believe in the supposed 12th deity "Moongazer", talk of trying to reach space to find their goddess, she was very interested even though she didn't share the cult's beliefs at all. Since Ember knew the most about space and was the most willing, the cultists consented to their new recruit being the first to enter space and meet the mighty and elusive Moongazer. Over some months they constructed a powerful catapult, one that was indeed strong enough to fling Ember out of the stratosphere and into space. For one glorious, terrifying, dizzying moment, Ember was in the place she'd always longed for, stardust filling her eyes and nose and ears and sticking to her fur, before she began to plummet back to Sornieth. She caught fire as she re-entered the planet's atmosphere, and was a streaking comet of red across the sky before she plummeted into the Sea of a Thousand Currents. Nearly dead, she managed to swim ashore and limp her way home. Upon seeing her, the cultists decided to abandon the catapult idea for now and are now trying to contact the Moongazer telepathically instead. Ember struggles with the feelings of emptiness of having achieved her life's dream, and the scars it left on her mind and body.
