Vera

Vera was once a roiling mass of condensation and static electricity, bringing rain to the parched earth of the Shifting Expanse and striking her favourite spot: a big metal thing that stuck really high out of the ground. When the lightning hit it, all manner of gizmos and whatzits would light up and whirr around. She found them utterly fascinating– What did all those things do? What were they for? She simply had to know, but she had no idea how to find out, until one day, the whatzits weren’t whirring. She was devastated, until a dragon came out, tools in hand, and got them working again. So, Vera concentrated. Indigo clouds rolled angrily across the sky, and descended to the earth. Lightning crackled and sparked, thunder rumbled throughout the roiling mass as the clouds parted to reveal… a cloudy blue statue? The eyes cracked open, and the statue– no, dragon– stood. “How did you do that?”
From then on, Vera was a dragon who carefully observed all the work at the Tempest Spire, and listened intently as the engineers described in great detail how stuff works.
