Biography

The Dauntless

Adriel hails from a faraway place, a dark land of savagery and desperation, ravaged by disease and war. Despite his adaptable nature and inclination toward physical confrontation, the Scarred Wasteland never felt like home.

He has no memory of his father. Perhaps it's for the better.

As for his mother, Adriel has no neat box to place her in. She tried to do right by him, but maternal instinct never came easily to her. A master of dark magic and fugitive from the Ice Flight, she taught him how to survive in the abysmal, uncaring land of his childhood, even going so far as to force Adriel and his brother to confront, fight, and learn from the more belligerent members of their clan.

She often recounted tales of the Southern Icefield, and though she spoke mainly of the supposed cruelty of her former clanmates, Adriel focused on her depictions of snow-buried forests and glaciers that stretch beyond the horizon. Though by no means a cornucopia of crop and culture, the frozen continent seemed a veritable paradise to a young dragon raised among pestilence and perpetual dearth.

On a moonless autumn night, Adriel and his brother made the decision to trade the Scarred Wasteland for the land their mother spoke of with such bitter ire. Under the cover of darkness, they left behind the only world they had ever known.

Before they reached the coast, his brother quailed at the thought of crossing the ocean, and instead chose to settle in the Windswept Plateau. Adriel continued to his original destination, undeterred by the now-total loss of his family.

He has not seen his brother since.

He arrived in the Southern Icefield before the onset of a terrible blizzard. Weaving between towering spires of ice, cutting through the clearest skies he had ever seen, soaring above snow-buried forests --- he had finally come home.

Before the first snowflakes fell, he took up residence in a young, foundling clan in desperate need of strong new additions. They treated him as an equal - no trace of the abuse and cruelty his mother had led him to expect. He rapidly rose in rank, and though his current clan lacks a defined leader, he is one of the honored elite - respected by every member for his wisdom, worldly experience, and military prowess, though he still retains traces of the anger and callous egoism of his homeland.
