LUREN & ADKAS of MORTAS

DUPLICITOUS, NEUROTIC, EGOTISTICAL

Seven times, I have died in His name. Seven sisters, we have given Him. I am the eighth and I am the last. I am Her sacrament. I am the finality. I am Hers completely.

ABOUT

Luren and Adkas of Mortas are, in the loosest definition of all of these words, a travelling duo of merchants. The definitions are all loose because they are very bad at being all of those things. While Luren - the three-eyed one - can and will try to sell you anything in the world, Adkas - the one that is usually saying weird things all of the time - is more preoccupied with acquiring trinkets and oddities (which Luren refers to scornfully as "hot garbage"). These oddities, usually, are bones, skulls, or things that look like they could be occult - unfortunately, Adkas's vision is poor, and so they will scoop up just about anything that vaguely looks like those things.

Luren, on the other hand, would consider himself rather charismatic, charming, and a delight to have in class. He is not that, but he does like to think he is. While he looks smarter when compared to Adkas, he is, quite frankly, not at all. His ego bruises easily and he is woefully dramatic, nor does he believe in things like "disease" or "food poisoning" - but he will fight Adkas over food, despite the fact that they share a stomach.

LUREN

Luren, when compared to his brother, looks more composed than the other, but it is less of anything on his part and more so the fact that anything will look better when compared to a radioactive trash fire - not that he likes hearing that, mind you. Were he separated from Adkas, though, he would probably do something spectacularly stupid - not that he doesn't already, except without a scapegoat. He comes across as polite and cordial, until he talks for a little too long, and his massive ego is unleashed. Luren considers himself the best at anything he does, and fully asserts himself as an accomplished businessman - simply ignore his trail of debt, is all.

ADKAS

Adkas is, entirely technically, the eldest of the two, but it doesn't particularly matter. Half the people they tell this to don't even understand at all, what with them belonging to the same body, but Adkas - with great pride! - asserts that they emerged from the primordial goop first, which gives them privileges like "DIBS ON THE ROTTING MEAT" and "I'M OLDER THAN YOU I GET TO NAME THE CAT". This, ultimately, does not really matter, nor would this change anything were they even - technically - younger, because they share a body with their brother, and he doesn't even listen to them. It's the thought that counts, they assert, but the thought does not count even a little bit.

HISTORY

They used to be alive. Old memories are hazy, inaccessible. They remember rotting wood and cobwebs, the vague memory of pale eyes. Someone saved them. That's what mattered.

They used to be one. The Scarred Wasteland claims all, reformed by someone else. Their brain was split in two. One becomes two. Two becomes four. Four becomes eight. The eighth is the last. A finality, a signature. The cessation of a contract. Power for someone else's sake.

Could they recall before? Would they want to?
