Blessed by the Windsinger, they said. Living proof of the wind god's ability, they murmurred in hushed whispers. Quite an expectation to live up to, Hypnos could hear in the breeze.

Their egg was a last-ditch effort to appease the Windsinger. Rumour had it that when the Theatre Company decided to settle down in Dragonhome, the Third God was so angry they hadn't chosen him that the city was battered and assaulted by storms for weeks. On the fifth day of the fourth week, luck would have it that Hyde would find two eggs abandoned in the forest - one originating from the Southern Icefield, and the other from the Windswept Plateau. The Company unanimously voted to raise the children as their own. And later that day, Hypnos crawled out of that second egg, and the storms miraculously stopped.

Most of the tale was nonsense, of course. The Windsinger didn't care about an ordinary Earth clan, certainly not enough to attempt tearing it to pieces. What was true was that Hypnos's magic was both very strong and very abnormal, likely because it was mutated by the aftermath of [redacted]. Hypnos had a foot outside of reality; sometimes they would fade away for hours at a time, sometimes they would get so angry they would disincorporate, and sometimes they would tell people about what they heard on the wind - which no-one else understood what they were talking about. No-one was really sure what the young Pearlcatcher was going to do with their power.

As it turns out, they would simply disappear for weeks at a time. There's no telling if Hypnos will show up for a performance, meaning that they are cast very rarely. Seeing a performance with Hypnos in it is considered an honour among fans. Their tendency to "take leave" from the company has also increased after the disappearance of their sibling, Swan. No-one's quite sure what they're doing, but it's kept some higher-ups in the Company suspicious of them - perhaps wrongly, as their suspicions seem unfounded outside of baseless rumours.
